Before smart phones and personal computers, before the Beatles first appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show, the Jim Kweskin Jug Band became the original Americana band, playing everything from classic blues to hillbilly country, ragtime, jazz, and rock and roll, perfectly capturing the 1960s mix of exuberant anarchy and heartfelt sincerity. The band will play at the Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse, 2020 Addison Street, Berkeley, Calif. on Saturday, July 6, and Sunday, July 7, 2013.

The Laguna Playouse will present Hershey Felder's newest production, award-winning concert pianist Mona Golabek starring in the one-woman show, based on a true story, THE PIANIST OF WILLESDEN LANE. Adapted and directed by audience favorite Hershey Felder and based on the book The Children of Willesden Lane by Golabek and Lee Cohen, this music-filled evening recounts the personal story of Ms. Golabek's mother in Nazi-occupied Europe. THE PIANIST OF WILLESDEN LANE will perform for two weeks only beginning tonight, May 29 through Sunday, June 9 at the Laguna Playhouse, Moulton Theatre, 606 Laguna Canyon Rd. in Laguna Beach.

The New York Times reports that Allan Arbus has passed away at age 95 at his home in Los Angeles. The news was confirmed by his daughter, Amy this morning. The actor is best known for his role as psychiatrist Maj. Sidney Freedman on the hit television series M*A*S*H.
