From tonight to Saturday, April 2-6, 2013, The Kitchen presents the New York premiere of choreographer Camille A. Brown's Mr.TOL E. RAncE. Inspired by Spike Lee's controversial film Bamboozled and Mel Watkins' book On The Real Side: Laughing, Lying, And Signifying - The Underground Tradition of African American Humor that Transformed American Culture, from Slavery to Chris Rock, Brown's ensemble piece celebrates the humor and perseverance of the black performer while examining the stereotypes that persist in popular black culture. Mr. TOL E. RancE is performed by Brown and her company: Juel D. Lane, Mayte Natalio, Waldean Nelson, Mora-Amina Parker, Willie 'Tre' Smith III and KeonThoulouis, and features original music, which will be played live by Scott Patterson.

AMERICAN TRIUMVIRATE Wins 2012 USGA Herbert Warren Wind Book Award

In recognition of its high standard of achievement in golf literature, "American Triumvirate: Sam Snead, Byron Nelson, Ben Hogan and the Modern Age of Golf," written by James Dodson, has earned the United States Golf Association's Herbert Warren Wind Book Award for 2012. Dodson previously won the award in 2004 for "Ben Hogan: An American Life."

Philadelphia Theatre Company has announced A. ZELL WILLIAMS as the recipient of the Terrence McNally New Play Award for the research and development of his play The Urban Retreat about a teacher whose writing career has taken a detour at the request of a former student-turned-Hip-Hop superstar. The Terrence McNally New Play Award is a $10,000 cash prize given annually to recognize a new play that celebrates the transformative power of art. The Award will also include a year of development support at PTC, including readings as well as administrative support and networking to help manage the future of the play beyond its time at PTC.

Philadelphia Theatre Company presents PTC@Play, a two-week festival of new work today, February 18-March 3 at PTC's home at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre (Broad and Lombard Streets). The festival will feature staged readings of four new plays by both established and emerging playwrights, a new play with music in development starring Tony and Barrymore Award winner Forrest McClendon as African American vaudeville legend Bert Williams, and an evening of short plays, FuturePhilly@Play, by seven emerging playwrights. Each playwright will be in-residence at PTC for their reading, and every reading will conclude with a reception where audiences and artists can meet. All events are free with curtain time at 7:30 PM. A highlight of PTC@Play will be the February 18th announcement of the winner of the Terrence McNally New Play Award, a $10,000 cash prize given annually to recognize a new play that celebrates the transformative power of art.
