As a celebration of one of the most popular and culturally significant dramas of the past decade as well as serving as a prelude to the highly anticipated season three premiere, NBC will air “The Paley Center Salutes This Is Us” on Tuesday, Sept. 18 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

Presented by a brand new Production group, 4 Leaf Music Productions, in Association with Golden Performing Arts Center, and based on a 1934 Kaufman and Hart play of the same name, this musical tells the story of three friends, Franklin, Charley, and Mary, and the progressive decadence of their bonds and their dreams. The story is told in reverse. When it begins, in 1980, they're in their 40's: Franklin, is a rich, successful, conceited and confused noted songwriter; Charley, the lyricist in the duo, has cut off ties with his partner after a nervous breakdown and Mary is a lonely alcoholic still secretly in love with Franklin from when they first met, years and years ago. As we move forward in the play but backwards in time, we see how their friendships disintegrate, along with their aspirations and Franklin's many whirlwind marriages. Rewinding through the '70s and '60s, we end up in 1957, when the three of them meet for the first time, on a rooftop in the city, all hopeful young talents per-chance gathering to watch Sputnik go by in the pre-dawn sky. The song they sing, 'Our Time' ('We're the movers, we're the shapers/ the names in tomorrow's papers'), is undercut by some very keen irony, since we've already seen how it all turns out, at the beginning.

Marissa Wolf, Associate Artistic Director and Director of New Works at Kansas City Repertory Theatre (KCRep), today announced the full schedule for the organization's popular 2018/2019 Monday Night Playwright Series. The series features a line-up of new and returning playwrights including Christina Anderson, Bennett Fisher, Greta Oglesby, Andrew Rosendorf, Bianca Leigh and Mellon Foundation Playwright in Residence Nathan Louis Jackson, in addition to the Playwright Slam, hosted by Nathan Louis Jackson. These free public events take place on the UMKC campus at the Spencer Theatre Donor Lounge.

NBC has promoted Lyric Ross to a series regular for the upcoming third season of THIS IS US, according to Variety.

Sony Classical releases OPERATION FINALE (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) with original music byAcademy Award winner Alexandre Desplat (The Shape of Water, The Grand Budapest Hotel). Producers Ira Pittelman and Tom Hulce have announced today that the new musical Ain't Too Proud – The Life and Times of the Temptations will bring the incredible true story of the greatest R&B group of all time to Broadway in Spring 2019 at the legendary Imperial Theatre (249 West 45th Street). On the heels of the successful 2017 debut of the Expand Upon staged reading series, Mirror Stage proudly announces Expand Upon: INCARCERATION as the first show of the 2018-2019 Season. For each new Expand Upon in the series, the community selects a theme, and Mirror Stage commissions two local playwrights to develop 30-60 minute plays, using the same multi-generational, multi-racial cast. For the second Expand Upon staged reading, the community chose the theme of Incarceration, and Mirror Stage commissioned The Assailant by Alma Davenport, and The Swimming Pool by Stacy D. Flood.
