The Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities will open its 43rd theatre season with the hit Broadway musical Mamma Mia! directed by Rod A. Lansberry, today, September 7, 2018. Mamma Mia! is based on the songs of ABBA, one of the most popular international pop groups of all time. It follows a young bride's quest to discover the true identity of her father and the story unfolds to hilarious consequence when she invites three men from her mother's past to her wedding. Since its premiere in 1999, it's been performed in over 40 countries, and every day, there are at least seven performances being staged somewhere in the world. Last night at the Australian Writers' Guild's annual AWGIE Awards PJ Hogan was honoured with the Music Theatre Award and the 2018 David Williamson Prize for Muriel's Wedding the Musical.  These two major and prestigious AWGIE acknowledgements continue to add to the productions' unprecedented list of award wins which also includes 5 Helpmann Awards and 7 Sydney Theatre Awards.  

East West Players (EWP), the nation's longest-running professional theater of color in the country and the largest producing organization of Asian American artistic work, is pleased to that announce that the award-winning Broadway musical Mamma Mia! will be part of its 53rd Anniversary Season, Culture Shock, which takes place from Fall 2018 through Summer 2019. With Music and Lyrics by Benny Andersson & Bjorn Ulvaeus, and Book by Catherine Johnson, Mamma Mia! will be directed by Snehal Desai and close out the season. Mamma Mia! begins performances on May 9, 2019 and runs until June 9, 2019, with opening night on May 16, 2019. 

Muriel's Wedding The Musical will play a strictly limited season in Melbourne at Her Majesty's Theatre from March 2019 before returning to Sydney in July 2019 playing at the Sydney Lyric Theatre.

Many of my readers know my connection with MAMMA MIA! on Broadway (see my bio below). When I saw many months ago that Toby's Dinner Theatre in Columbia would be presenting it (the professional regional premiere) I knew it would be a money maker and knew, after seeing many Toby productions, it would be done well. Well, not only have they done well, this edition of MAMMA MIA! is just plain superb.

It's safe to say that Natalie Douglas is a little obsessed with Cher. Throughout TRIBUTES: CHER, the latest in her award-winning TRIBUTES series, Douglas made her way through the icon's life from her early career up to the present, both in song and in story. But the real focus of the July 16 show at Birdland wasn't necessarily in identifying with the woman, the myth, the legend that is Cher. (After all, how can anyone fully relate to someone for whom a phrase as simple as "Hi again" is a meme-able moment?)

While tropical cyclone Henry was leaving the country, United International Pictures, via Columbia Pictures, held the Philippine premiere of “Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again” in Makati City last Tuesday, graced by a sizable crowd, some members of the press and MCA Music (Universal Music Philippines) signed artists Sabrina, Elha Nympha, and Noel Comia Jr.

Mamma Mia - Here we go again is a real feel good movie and if you loved Mamma Mia I'm sure you will love this too. The story in Mamma Mia is not that strong and the story in the sequel is weaker but it doesn't matter as it is build around the music of Abba, songs we all know and love.

Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgard, Christine Baranski and Andy Garcia join Kathie Lee Gifford and Sheinelle Jones to talk about the fun they had filming "Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again."
