The world premiere of PSYCHE: A Modern Rock Opera is undeniably impressive, especially when you consider the scope of the author's vision and the level of detail that has gone into its execution.
Psyche Productions, LLC in association with Greenway Arts Alliance present the world premiere of, PSYCHE: A Modern Rock Opera, book, music and lyrics by Cindy Shapiro (based on the Greek myth of 'Psyche and Eros'), with musical direction by Jack Wall, choreography by Janet Roston and directed by Ovation Award-winner Michael Matthews. This, my third viewing of the smash Tony Award winning musical superhit Avenue Q, was by far the most joyous and rewarding of all. This little show, like a Sesame Street for adults, plays out like life - only bigger - with off-the-wall grotesquely funny situations, hilarious one-liners and tantalizing music, each and every tune a winner. The show leaves you craving more, but unfortunately you only have through December 16 to see DOMA's splendid production at the Met Theatre in Hollywood. It's one thing to see this show on the huge Ahmanson or Pantages stages and quite another to see it on the smaller more intimate stage at the Met. This close-up intimacy enhances the enjoyment of the show 150%.
DOMA Theatre Company has struck gold with its final production of the 2012 season, a tightly crafted, well-played AVENUE Q directed by one of L.A.'s favorite local theatre directors, Richard Israel.

Winding up an ambitious, critically-acclaimed 2012 season of Broadway musicals, DOMA Theatre Company presents the only Tony Award-winning musical ever to proclaim, "It sucks to be us." DOMA has a big and bold mission statement: enhancing your theatre experience beyond expectations. Competing with Musical Theatre of Los Angeles, MTW (Musical Theatre West) and Cabrillo, just to name a few, it sounds as if their productions will be of a more memorable calibre than the others. If that is an accurate interpretation, their aim is stretched way out of proportion. But...surprisingly, if you look at it from a more realistic angle, it applies most assuredly to my experience. Since this is my first visit to DOMA, I must admit, based on negative word-of-mouth reactions to previous shows, I was unexpectedly and pleasantly impressed with what I saw in their latest production of Jekyll & Hyde. And realizing that part of the talent comes from the college student arena, the result is all the more impressive. Now through July 29, on the stage at the Met in Hollywood, Jekyll & Hyde will play out its intriguing game of good versus evil in DOMA's exceedingly professional looking and sounding representation.
