The feuding fairies and merry mechanicals at Synetic Theater have been invited by Instituto Chihuahuense de La Cultura, headed by Fermin Gutierrez Galindo, to perform at the 10th edition of Festival Internacional. The company's award-winning wordless Shakespeare production will be performed at Teatro De Los Heros in Chihuahua on August 13 at 8 pm and at Teatro Victor Hugo Rascon Banda in Juarez on August 15 at 7 pm.

Imagination Stage, in Bethesda, has scored yet another home run with its production of THE BFG, adapted by David Wood, OBE, from Roald Dahl's children's novel, and directed by Kathryn Chase Bryer and Eric J. Van Wyck. Parents will find themselves laughing along with their kids at Dahl's and Wood's irreverent humor, including an extended riff on the biologically impolite results of reversing the direction of the bubbles in soda pop. The more mature members of the audience will chuckle at the modern cultural references. This production is a must-see.

Imagination Stage is the new home of Giant Country in The BFG (Big Friendly Giant), a play based on the book by Roald Dahl and adapted by David Wood. Co-directed by Imagination Stage's Associate Artistic Director Kathryn Chase Bryer and Eric J. Van Wyk of Viterbo University, The BFG integrates puppetry, rich visuals, and imaginative storytelling as Sophie and the Big Friendly Giant go on a magical journey to save the children of England. Synetic Theater's 2014/15 Season will open in September with an original adaptation of H.G. Wells science-fiction masterpiece The Island of Dr. Moreau directed by and starring Synetic Artisitic Director, Paata Tsikurishvili. Then, just in time for the holidays, Synetic presents a brand-new version of Beauty and the Beast that puts a new twist on the original tale. In February, the company will present their 11th 'wordless Shakespeare' adaptation with Much Ado About Nothing. The Season will conclude in May with Janus Glowacki's hilarious dark comedy Hunting Cockroaches starring Paata and Irina Tsikurishvili - on stage together for the first time since 2010 - and guest directed by Serge Seiden of Studio Theatre.

The Rainbow Theatre Project presents Say You Love Satan by D.C.-native Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa in the third slot of their inaugural season of concert readings. Directed by John Moletress, Satan plays at Source in D.C. on Monday, February 24, 2014 at 7:30 p.m., and will be preceded by a reading of Frank Anthony Polito's short play, White Room w/ Red Door, directed by The Rainbow Theatre Project's Producing Artistic Director, H. Lee Gable.

Just when you were about to pack it in because of the miserable weather Synetic Theater has come up with a joyous, raucous celebration of love-and jazz-in its latest Shakespeare adaptation. Twelfth Night, perhaps the Bard's most beloved comedy, is realized here as a manic and slapstick-ridden romp through the Roaring Twenties. Featuring classic tunes from the early jazz era, director Paata Tsikurishvili has set the action in a silent-era Hollywood sound stage. His wife, Irina, heads a stellar cast that channels the best of 1920's screen comedians, to brilliant effect.

Though there are challenges, even a less than perfect Synetic show is always a pleasure to behold to see the masterful artistry at work.

Synetic's reinvention of this classic tale features dynamic movement and multimedia, and promises to be a unique fusion of visual and verbal poetry that will explore the internal and external dimensions of Wilde's only novel, which many consider his most personal work-a timelessly supernatural story of man's endless conflict with the nature of mortality.

While the adaptation of the classic tale is not particularly inspiring, this show is one to see for the creative staging and design work as well as a talented group of actors led by the extraordinary Alex Mills.

Simply put, Synetic Theater's current production of The Three Musketeers (playing now through June 9th) completely, in every way, stands up to all that Synetic Theater proposes to offer by way of a "dynamic synthesis of the arts". Frankly, Synetic knocks it out of the park. Out of the city. Out of the state. Out of the good ole' U.S. of A.
