Llorca's THE EMPTY HOURS Gets Lincoln Center Premiere, 11/19

In a world increasingly dominated by texts and tweets, a timely new opera will offer a digital-age take on the time-honored tragic heroine. 'The Empty Hours' (Las Horas Vacias) by acclaimed Spanish composer Ricardo Llorca will have its staged world premiere at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall on November 19th. The tale of a lonely woman whose obsession with the internet fuels an extraordinary fantasy world, 'The Empty Hours' will be presented by the New York Opera Society in a special, one-night only performance.

Met Live Presents DON PASQUALE, 11/13

The Met: Live in HD presents Donizetti's Don Pasquale in movie theaters worldwide this Saturday, November 13 at 1:00 pm ET. Anna Netrebko revives her sensational turn in this sophisticated bel canto comedy, opposite Matthew Polenzani, Mariusz Kwiecien, and John Del Carlo in the title role. Music Director James Levine conducts. When Otto Schenk's production premiered in 2006, the New York Times called it 'brilliant' and 'wonderful.' Lyric Opera of Kansas City Presents NORMA 11/6-11/14

The Lyric Opera of Kansas City continues its 53rd season after a record-breaking run of Carmen with the Company debut of Norma. Norma is the quintessential bel canto opera showcasing brilliant vocal singing and is the first Bellini opera ever produced by the Company. The production features a renowned cast of singers and The Kansas City Symphony conducted by Lyric Opera Artistic Director Ward Holmquist. Norma opens on Novembers 6, 2010 in celebration of National Opera Week October 29 - November 7, 2010. This will be the Company's final season in the Lyric Theatre. Beginning in the fall of 2011, the Lyric Opera will perform at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts.

MTC Presents HAPPY NOW? 11/11-12/5

Marin Theatre Company announces the West Coast premiere of Happy Now? by British playwright Lucinda Coxon. Happy Now? received rave reviews on both sides of the Atlantic in London and New York. Jasson Minadakis directs Happy Now? in the Boyer Theatre November 11 through December 5, 2010. Opening night is November 16.

Lloyd Webber Talks Joan Sutherland

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Andrew Lloyd Webber has praised Joan Sutherland for both her acting and vocal chops. Sutherland died at her Switzerland home last night. She was 83.
