Curtain Call Performing Arts (CCPA) is proud to announce opera troupe Opera On Tap: San Francisco (OOT:SF) has taken residency following a sold-out run of Mozart's Figaro last summer. The San Francisco chapter of OOT will perform two opera's in downtown San Leandro as part of Curtain Call's 5th anniversary season. The first production is Giocomo Rossini's Cinderella themed opera, La Cenerentolawith five performances scheduled Friday through Sunday, December 13-15. La Cenerentola will be presented as an abridged one-act matinee for children on Saturday, December 14 and Sunday, December 15 at 2:00 PM, and in its uncut entirety on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday December 13-15 at 8:00 PM. All performances will be held at the California Conservatory Theatre (CCT), 999 E. 14th St., San Leandro.

Lyric Opera of Chicago and composer Jimmy Lopez are the recipients of the Prince Charitable Trusts 2013 Prince Prize for Commissioning New Original Work - the first time ever the Prince Prize has been awarded for an opera commission. The $75,000 award ($25,000 of which goes to the composer) was awarded for the opera Bel Canto, which is based on the best-selling Ann Pachett novel of the same name. The opera will receive its world premiere at Lyric in December of 2015 and will star renowned soprano Danielle de Niese in the central role. The libretto is by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Nilo Cruz. Bel Canto will be directed by Kevin Newbury and conducted by Lyric Opera music director Sir Andrew Davis.

Beginning with the 2013-14 season, the New York Philharmonic's Insights Series - in which artists and experts will explore some of the season's themes and concerts - will now be free, and take place at the David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center. This season's events will include discussions with Concertmaster Glenn Dicterow during his farewell season (TODAY, October 23); composer-conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen and violinist Leila Josefowicz (October 28), who will discuss Mr. Salonen's Violin Concerto, written for Ms. Josefowicz (which they will perform with the Philharmonic in its New York Concert Premiere, October 30-November 5); Music Director Alan Gilbert and Executive Director Matthew VanBesien on the state of the Philharmonic (March 3, 2014); The Mary and James G. Wallach Artist-in-Residence Yefim Bronfman (May 20, 2014), who will talk about Beethoven's piano concertos (which he will perform during The Beethoven Piano Concertos: A Philharmonic Festival, June 11-28, 2014); and discussions relating to the NY PHIL BIENNIAL, the details of which will be announced at a later date. Bellini's “Norma” opened at the Metropolitan Opera last Monday night to a full audience giving resounding praise to the leading lady, soprano Sondra Radvanovsky. Ms. Radvanovsky's performance of the title role was incredibly expressive and most articulately nuanced. Her inaugural American performance of the role was the driving force that kept John Copley's otherwise dull production moving forward. Having been the first time she has sung bel canto at this house, she performed with amazing elegance, drawing the audience to her voice with seductive pianissimos and trumpeting top notes.
Attorney Jennifer C. Terry has been named Chair of the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles Children's Chorus (LACC), one of the world's foremost children's choirs. The La Canada resident has served on LACC's Board of Directors since 2009 and is parent of two LACC choristers.
