The Old Globe Offers THINKING SHAKESPEARE LIVE! Program Today

The Old Globe presents THINKING SHAKESPEARE LIVE!, a 90-minute presentation exploring the language of Shakespeare, today, June 15 at 11 a.m. Led by Old Globe Artistic Director Barry Edelstein and assisted by three professional classical actors, this special program based on Edelstein's book, THINKING SHAKESPEARE: A HOW-TO GUIDE FOR STUDENT ACTORS, DIRECTORS, AND ANYONE ELSE WHO WANTS TO FEEL MORE COMFORTABLE WITH THE BARD, will reveal a performer's approach to Shakespearean language so audiences may easily understand the poetry of the Bard. An ideal introduction to Shakespeare for families and young audiences, THINKING SHAKESPEARE LIVE! will take place on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center.

Antony Raymond's ELSINORE COUNTY to Play Theatre Row's Lion Theatre, 6/20-7/3

After a wildly successful workshop production, Daniel Neiden and Peter O'Connor will present AntonyRaymond's comedy Elsinore County. The Old Globe today announced Thinking Shakespeare Live!, a 90-minute presentation exploring the language of Shakespeare, on Saturday, June 15 at 11 a.m. Led by Old Globe Artistic Director Barry Edelstein and assisted by three professional classical actors, this special program based on Edelstein's book, Thinking Shakespeare: A How-To Guide for Student Actors, Directors, and Anyone Else Who Wants to Feel More Comfortable with the Bard, will reveal a performer's approach to Shakespearean language so audiences may easily understand the poetry of the Bard. An ideal introduction to Shakespeare for families and young audiences, Thinking Shakespeare Live! will take place on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Directed by Richard Seer, Other Desert Cities is now running on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center, through June 2, 2013. 2013 Shakespeare Festival Cast & Creative Team Announced

The Old Globe today announced the complete cast and creative team for the 2013 Shakespeare Festival. Festival Artistic Director Adrian Noble returns to San Diego for his fourth and final year of Festival programming. The internationally acclaimed director will helm productions of William Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice and Tom Stoppard's classic farce, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead. Laurence Olivier Award-nominated director Ian Talbot will make his Old Globe debut with the enduring Shakespeare favorite A Midsummer Night's Dream. The 2013 Shakespeare Festival, performed in repertory in the outdoor Lowell Davies Festival Theatre, runs June 2 - Sept. 29. Subscription tickets from $66 to $270. Single tickets start at $29. The Old Globe's Season Will Include THE FEW, THE LAST GOODBYE and More

Old Globe Artistic Director Barry Edelstein's inaugural season kicks off with The Last Goodbye, a new musical that marries Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and the electrifying songs of the legendary singer-songwriter Jeff Buckley. As previously announced, the rock musical is directed by two-time Tony Award nominee Alex Timbers (Peter and the Starcatcher, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson) with choreography by Sonya Tayeh ("So You Think You Can Dance"). The 2013-14 Season will also feature the World Premieres of The Few by Samuel D. Hunter and Dog and Pony, a new musical by Rick Elice and Michael Patrick Walker. Edelstein will make his Old Globe directorial debut with Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale. Rounding out the season are the California Premiere of Pulitzer Prize winner Water by the Spoonful by Quiara Alegria Hudes, the West Coast Premiere of Bethany by Laura Marks, the J.B. Priestley classic Time and the Conways and Christopher Durang's current Broadway hit Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike.

Jeff Buckley Musical, THE LAST GOODBYE, to Play Old Globe This October

The Old Globe will open its 2013-14 Season with The Last Goodbye, a new musical that marries Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and the incendiary songs of the legendary singer-songwriter Jeff Buckley. Conceived and adapted by Michael Kimmel, the rock musical is directed by two-time Tony Award nominee Alex Timbers (Peter and the Starcatcher, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson). Choreography is by Sonya Tayeh ("So You Think You Can Dance"), and orchestrations, music direction and arrangements are by Kris Kukul. The complete creative team and casting, as well as the remainder of the Globe's new season, will be announced at a later date. The Last Goodbye will run on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center, Sept. 20 - Nov. 3, 2013. Preview performances run Sept. 20 - Oct. 5. Opening night is Sunday, Oct. 6. Tickets are currently available by subscription only. The Old Globe today announced the complete cast and creative team of the San Diego premiere of Jon Robin Baitz's award-winning family drama Other Desert Cities. Directed by Richard Seer, Other Desert Cities will run on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center, April 27 - June 2, 2013. Preview performances run April 27 - May 1. Opening night is Thursday, May 2 at 8:00 p.m. Other Desert Cities is a co-production with TheatreWorks Silicon Valley. BREAKING NEWS: Old Globe Postpones THE HONEYMOONERS Due to Scheduling Conflicts

The Old Globe today announced that its upcoming production of the The Honeymooners has been postponed due to a conflict with artist schedules. The world premiere musical by Dusty Kay and Bill Nuss (book), Stephen Weiner (music) and Peter Mills (lyrics) was originally set to run at the Globe from Sept. 8 - Oct. 27, 2013 under the direction of Jerry Mitchell.

Alan Alda to Lead Ten Chimneys' Lunt-Fontanne Fellowship Master Class, 7/21-28

Ten Chimneys Foundation announces its 2013 Lunt-Fontanne Fellowship Master Class with Academy Award nominee, six time Golden Globe winner, and five time Emmy Award winner Alan Alda serving as the Master Teacher. From July 21 - 28, Mr. Alda will focus on spontaneity on stage, and will lead ten accomplished theatre actors in a master class and immersion experience on the grounds and within the inspirational rooms of Ten Chimneys, the National Historic Landmark estate of Broadway legends Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne in Genesee Depot, Wisconsin.

The Old Globe Receives 10 San Diego Theatre Critics Circle Craig Noel Awards

The Old Globe received 10 San Diego Theatre Critics Circle Craig Noel Awards honoring excellence in 2012 San Diego County theater, the most wins of any theater company, at a ceremony held at the Museum of Modern Art San Diego on Feb. 4. The world premiere of Allegiance - A New American Musical garnered three awards, for Outstanding New Musical, Orchestrations and Featured Performance in a Musical for Michael K. Lee. The Scottsboro Boys also earned three awards, including Outstanding Resident Musical as well as Direction of a Musical and Choreography for Susan Stroman. Jonathan Caren's The Recommendation was named Outstanding New Play. The Globe's productions of Nobody Loves You, Inherit the Wind and As You Like It each received one award.
