Boston Court Presents The West Coast Premiere Of HER PORTMANEAU

Boston Court Performing Arts Center presents the West Coast premiere of Her Portmanteau written by Mfoniso Udofia and directed by Gregg T. Daniel, May 24 - June 30, 2018 (press opening June 2).  The production stars Joyce Guy (Abasiama), Omoze Idehenre (Adiaha) and Dele Ogundrian (Iniabasi).

THE PECULIAR PATRIOT Returns To National Black Theatre

The Peculiar Patriot, the hilarious yet scathing indictment of the criminal justice system starring Liza Jessie Peterson and directed by Talvin Wilks is returning to National Black Theatre in preparation for a national tour this fall. The multimedia, one-woman show, which had its world premiere to a galvanizing, sold-out run in September, will have previews on July 9 and 10, open on July 11 and run through July 29. The show, a coproduction of Dr. Barbara Ann Teer's National Black Theatre (NBT) and Hi-ARTS, is being remounted as headlines blare with calls for tougher sentencing while governors from around the nation, including New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, are working to restore voting rights to the formerly incarcerated.

 On Saturday, May 5th 2018, Take Wing And Soar Productions (TWASInc), an award winning, Harlem-based, professional Theater Arts Corporation held its Fifteenth Anniversary Gala Celebration, the TAKE WING AND SOAR SPIRIT OF EXCELLENCE AWARDS, at Columbia University's Lerner Hall Roone Arledge Auditorium.  The elegant afternoon featured esteemed hosts, talented classical actor/singers and the Volunteer Divas who were joined by approximately 120 business leaders, artists, patrons, volunteers, friends and alumni.

Classical Theatre Of Harlem Presents SANACHO: AN ACT OF REMEMBRANCE

The Classical Theatre of Harlem (Ty Jones, Producing Artistic Director), Pemberley Productions and Dr. Barbara Ann Teer's National Black Theatre are proud to present Sancho: An Act of Remembrance. This timely theater production celebrates the extraordinary life of Charles Ignatius Sancho, an African man who was born on a slave ship and rose to prominence as a noted abolitionist, composer, social satirist and man of refinement in 18th century English society. Sancho makes his mark in history by becoming the first British-African to cast a vote in England in 1774.

THE NEW BLACK FEST At The Lark Returns For Fifth Season

The New Black Fest and The Lark, two theater organizations dedicated to celebrating and advocating for stories that explore the intersection of art and social justice, are proud to announce the fifth annual The New Black Fest at The Lark. This week-long event is aimed at showcasing diverse and provocative work in a festival of Black theater artists from throughout the Diaspora, and will feature talkbacks, a panel event, and staged readings of four plays-in-progress. National Black Theatre Announces The I AM SOUL Workshop Productions

Dr. Barbara Ann Teer's National Black Theatre NBT announces the culminating workshop productions of two I Am Soul Playwriting Resident playwrights, Angelica Ch ri and Derek Lee McPhatter. Ch ri's workshop production, Crowndation: I Will Not Lie David, will be directed by Cezar Williams and star Sheria Irving (Broadway: ROMEO AND JULIET, TV/Film: The Good Wife; Madame Secretary) in a one woman show.

National Black Theatre Kicks Off 2018 With a Symposium

The evening will take a closer look and celebrate the New York City Premiere of Octavia Butler's Parable of the Sower presented at the Public Theatre.
