Les Michaels Life Is A Cabaret Concert Series moves to Sundays at 2 PM in 2011 when award-winning writer, singer, composer, pianist, Melissa Vardey debuts her latest one-woman show in which we find her inhabiting the wonderful world of being underwater- figuratively speaking. Her only lifeline: her wits, skills at the piano and a sense of optimism while performing a variety of songs on piano, ukulele and percussion instruments, drawing from her own originals and her love of jazz, blues, pop, Broadway and classical.
The Desert will have a rare opportunity to see a new one-man musical presented by Jim J. Bullock on Sunday, January 23rd at 7 PM at the Arthur Newman Theatre at The Joslyn Center in Palm Desert. The show entitled 'Different' will use songs and stories to highlight the ups and downs of Jim's personal life and extensive show-business career.
Originally from Canada, (she's big in Winnipeg) Vicki Knight moved to the Desert area in the early eighties and wasted no time making a name for herself in Southern California, quickly being dubbed 'The Desert's Songbird'. The morning after they appeared at the Arthur Newman Theatre back in July, producer Les Michaels' phone was ringing off the hook with people saying it was one of the best shows they have seen in the desert in many a year and that they had to see it again and bring all their friends. Fortunately, Joslyn Center Director Peter Rittenhouse was getting the same calls and that helped him decide to extend Mr. Michaels Summer Cabaret Concert Series through August and now through December with another 10 dates.
