The box office will open on Sunday, January 4, 2009 at 12:00 p.m. for the new Broadway production of WEST SIDE STORY. Directed by multiple Tony Award winner and author of the musical Arthur Laurents, WEST SIDE STORY will begin preview performances at the Palace Theatre (1564 Broadway) on Broadway on Monday, February 23, 2009 with an official opening on Thursday, March 19, 2009.

Matthew Arkin Heads Up George Street's SIGHT UNSEEN 1/20

George Street Playhouse begins 2009 with its production of Donald Marguiles' Sight Unseen. When first presented in 1992, the play won the OBIE Award for Best New American Play, was nominated for a Drama Desk, and was a Pulitzer Prize finalist. George Street Playhouse Artistic Director will helm the production, slated to run at the New Brunswick theatre January2020 - February 15, 2009. Matthew Arkin, last seen at GSP in their production of Theresa Rebeck's The Scene, leads an ensemble including Heidi Armbruster, Christopher Curry and Kathleen McNenny.
GYPSY to Still Be Filmed Before It Closes?

Savvy BroadwayWorld.com visitors noticed a message up on Telecharge.com for those purchasings tickets to Gypsy's final performances back when they were to be in March. The good news for fans of the show, who were worried that the show's early closing might have derailed those plans is that the message is back up for the shows between January 2 and January 4, 2009.

The year was 1980, and Patti LuPone was starring as 'Evita' on Broadway. She was en route to winning the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical, and cementing her status as a Broadway star.
