On Friday 6 December 2013 whilst visiting New York, Declan Bennett, who plays Guy in the West End production of Once, dropped in to visit Arthur Darvill and Joanna Christie who play Guy and Girl in the Broadway production. They met on the shows onstage bar at the Bernard B. Jacob's Theatre where they swapped anecdotes about performing on both sides of the Atlantic in this multi-award winning production. Clearly, Once is a perfect show for a family with teenage children. It doesn't pander in any way, yet it's message is so pure and beautiful, it becomes holistically wholesome by the end of the show. It's a love story. There is no violence. Women are not exploited. Children are not harmed. But there is pain and heartbreak and loss and when those things are filtered through the minds and mouths of working class Irish folk, the F word shows up. A lot.
