On April 8, 9 and 10, nearly 11,000 of the region's third, fourth and fifth grade students will make their debut playing with the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra at Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Providence. The six Link Up concerts are the culmination of a year of school-based music education with the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra and Music School's FLEX program (Foundations in Learning Exploration). The Philharmonic seeks to serve every elementary student in the state within five years.

TOO MUCH SUN - the newest play by Nicky Silver - will be given its world-premiere production this spring at the Vineyard Theatre (108 E. 15 St.) starring the Tony Award-winning actress Linda Lavin, joined by the newly-announced cast: Ken Barnett, Richard Bekins, Matt Dellapina, Matt Dickson and Jennifer Westfeldt, it has been announced by Douglas Aibel, The Vineyard's Artistic Director, and Sarah Stern, Co-Artistic Director. A farm in central Mississippi might seem like an unlikely place for UFO activity, but that's just what the author and his family saw in the 1970s. Decades later, author B. Timothy Pennington began to research what he and his family experienced now that he was retired and not afraid of what speculation might do to his career as a scientist. In this new book he shares his observations and conclusions about UFOs, including some history about the field of UFO study. He draws on personal recollections and interviews with family members to supplement his own research into the phenomenon.

Today, Gay Men's Health Crisis (GMHC), the nation's oldest AIDS service organization, announces the sensational news that its annual dinner gala will be hosted by the award-winning actress, singer and dancer, Chita Rivera, and held at Cipriani 42nd Street, tonight, March 26, 2014. A revered Broadway legend, Ms. Rivera is not a stranger to GMHC. In 2004, she starred in GMHC's benefit concert, 'Showstoppers,' featuring 20 Broadway stars performing their signature numbers at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall.

Written in the late 1950's in a fine post-graduate frenzy, Kopit's play was inspired as much by the European avant-garde as by the angst of the Eisenhower years. Director Tyler Herman has done a great job in his first production, creating the anarchic, bizarre feel that Kopit's play requires, with Katie Wertz's surreal set and Jacy Barber's biologically-correct costumes (for the fish and plant life) creating just the right off-kilter atmosphere.

Tickets for Nicky Silver's newest work, TOO MUCH SUN starring Linda Lavin, will go on sale Tuesday, March 25 at 1pm.
