Nearly 11,000 Children to Perform with the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra in Six LINK UP Concerts, 4/8-10

On April 8, 9 and 10, nearly 11,000 of the region's third, fourth and fifth grade students will make their debut playing with the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra at Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Providence. The six Link Up concerts are the culmination of a year of school-based music education with the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra and Music School's FLEX program (Foundations in Learning Exploration). The Philharmonic seeks to serve every elementary student in the state within five years.

Magic Theatre, the Bay Area's preeminent home for new plays and playwrights, proudly announces its 2014-2015 season, anchored by part one of This Golden State, a world premiere trilogy by Luis Alfaro, co-commissioned by Magic Theatre and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. In addition, the season will kick off with Bad Jews, a hilarious comedy that will introduce up and coming playwright Joshua Harmon to Bay Area audiences. Next, Magic welcomes MacArthur Genius Award winner Naomi Wallace for the West Coast premiere of her powerful And I and Silence. In the spring, the rolling world premiere of the uproarious Sister Play (with the Harbor Stage Company of Cape Cod) marks the return of John Kolvenbach. One final play will be announced shortly, as well as the next chapter of 'Sheparding America', Magic's five year commitment to re dreaming Sam Shepard's legacy in the Bay Area and beyond.

Virginia's Tony-Award winning Signature Theatre announces the cast for The Threepenny Opera, Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill's cutting and enduring critique of capitalism and corruption. Directed by Signature Theatre's Associate Artistic Director Matthew Gardiner (Tender Napalm, Dreamgirls, Really Really), the production stars Mitchell Jarvis (Broadway's Rock of Ages) as the charismatic Macheath, known to popular culture as Mack the Knife.

TOO MUCH SUN - the newest play by Nicky Silver - will be given its world-premiere production this spring at the Vineyard Theatre (108 E. 15 St.) starring the Tony Award-winning actress Linda Lavin, joined by the newly-announced cast: Ken Barnett, Richard Bekins, Matt Dellapina, Matt Dickson and Jennifer Westfeldt, it has been announced by Douglas Aibel, The Vineyard's Artistic Director, and Sarah Stern, Co-Artistic Director. Mark Brokaw directs the production, scheduled to begin previews May 1 prior to an official opening night on May 18.

Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for theatre, is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2013 Edgerton Foundation New Play Awards. The awards, totaling $1,108,000, allow 39 productions extra time in the development and rehearsal of new plays with the entire creative team, helping to extend the life of the play after its first run.

A farm in central Mississippi might seem like an unlikely place for UFO activity, but that's just what the author and his family saw in the 1970s. Decades later, author B. Timothy Pennington began to research what he and his family experienced now that he was retired and not afraid of what speculation might do to his career as a scientist. In this new book he shares his observations and conclusions about UFOs, including some history about the field of UFO study. He draws on personal recollections and interviews with family members to supplement his own research into the phenomenon.

A revered Broadway legend, Ms. Rivera is not a stranger to GMHC. In 2004, she starred in GMHC's benefit concert, 'Showstoppers,' featuring 20 Broadway stars performing their signature numbers at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall.
