O: A RHAPSODY IN DIVORCE does what any good play sets out to do; it makes you feel. Your heart breaks for the lead character; her struggle and journey are effective and moving. There is a lot here to savor, and it maintains the prestige of what this company routinely produces.

“O: A Rhapsody in Divorce” is a new take on “The Odyssey” where we follow O as she is blindsided by her husband who wants a divorce; she then embarks on an odyssey of her own to find self-love. BroadwayWorld got the chance to speak with playwright Jami Brandli and director Jennifer Decker, who gave us a sneak peek of what we can look forward to!

On May 10th, I had the joy of seeing Mildred's Umbrella's latest production, Elizabeth A.M. Keel's TOOTH AND TAIL. Even though the show's short run is now over, I wanted to share my thoughts about TOOTH AND TAIL to shine a light on Keel's work as well as the artistry that every person involved with the show brought to Houston.

Firecracker Productions closes its season with Peter Sinn Nachtrieb's 'Bob: A Life in Five Acts' at Garza Studios. BOB will run Fridays and Saturdays, April 22- May 7 at 8pm.

After a two-year absence, Mildred Umbrella comes back with the regional premiere of El Huracan by Charise Castro Smith. This production reopens a theatre, reestablishes their commitment to telling female-centric stories, and promises a more diverse future for Mildred's Umbrella where they continue to tell stories about people from many different backgrounds. To do all this, and probably a lot more, they've come back with a play that's up to the task.

Obsidian Theater creates a new holiday tradition with the original work, A Drag Christmas Carol. Featuring Miss Gay Texas America 2018, Regina Blake-DuBois, this jukebox musical runs November 29 - December 15, 2018.   

DARK MATTER is a complex show that requires the audience make connections for themselves. It is challenging theatre presented by passionate artists who find ways to keep it light enough to be entertaining.

Closing out a six-year tenure in Spring Street Studios, Mildred's Umbrella (MU) is reviving a fan favorite from its days at Midtown Arts Center with DARK MATTER, a collection of gothic shorts by Don Nigro. These ten short pieces, speak to MU's unique aesthetic of dark and quirky comedy and feature a stellar cast of local talent.

The 2017 awards honor productions which opened between October 1, 2016 and September 30, 2017. Nominations were completely reader-submitted and after the nomination period ended October 31, BroadwayWorld's local editors proofed the list for eligibility and errors.

Regarded as one of the landmark plays of the 20th century, RHINOCEROS is a modern masterpiece that comments on the plight of the human condition, made tolerable only by self-delusion.

If you have any dull hatchets lying around, I suggest you bring them along. There are axe-grindings galore on the stage in this play by Catherine Trieschmann, now playing a summer run at the Obsidian Theater.

DOLLFACE, playwright Katharine Sherman's contemporary riff on the Medusa myth, marries imagination with detail beautifully in its world premiere run at Mildred's Umbrella Theater Company.

Sit back and simply enjoy the spectacle of the ladies discovering their sex while the men recoil in horror and sing songs about 'hair in the air', and then pretend it all made sense when you wake up in the morning. It's nonsense, both a trick and a treat for Halloween.

Obsidian Art Space's WHAT EVERY GIRL SHOULD KNOW by Monica Byrne is a theatrical drama incorporating elements of dance and fantasy into a story about young women slowly discovering their empowerment of self during a time when society would keep them ignorant and powerless. Set in 1914, the play uses the plight of 4 teenagers to give us a look at the tragic effects of denying women control of their own bodies. The story is gripping and made even more fascinating with its swift direction from Tom Stell and its able cast of four.
