Almonacid's THE ASSIGNMENT Comes to Luna Stage

The Assignment, a gripping and timely new play by Camilo Almonacid, begins a limited engagement at Luna Stage on Thursday, November 29. On the heels of Luna's critically-acclaimed Pirira, The Assignment is the second play in Luna's 2018-19 MainStage season, which features four new plays exploring how people can bridge ideological divides and create spaces of connection and healing.

Luna Stage Launches SHORT & SHOW with Midnights on Screen Followed by Pirira on Stage

Luna Stage's newest program, Short & Show, joins the screening of a short film with a MainStage Luna production. In a distinctive Luna move, the theater company is offering a double bill of two works of art in two different disciplines: the showing of a thrilling new short film, Midnights, directed by NJ-based Alvaro Donado, and Pirira on the MainStage. Midnights was filmed on location in nearby Paterson, and this screening will be its West Orange premiere. Both works of art deal with decent people in dangerous situations who, against the odds, attempt to do the right thing. Luna's Short & Show will be Friday, October 19 (Midnights at 7:15pm, Pirira at 8pm) and Sunday, October 21 (Midnights at 2:15pm, Pirira at 3pm).

Luna Stage to Host an Illuminating Conversation with Grass Roots Activists

Luna Stage will host a lively post-show conversation with Elizabeth Juliver, Co-founder and Political Director of NJ 11th For Change, a grassroots progressive activist group centered in New Jersey's 11th Congressional district, where Democrat Mikie Sherril and Republican Jay Webber are running for the seat vacated by Peter Frelinghuysen. Also participating in the conversation are Analilia Mejia, Director on NJ Working Families, and Mindy Fullilove, Professor of Urban Studies at The New School. The discussion will follow the Saturday, October 13 performance of Pirira. Pirira is a vibrant, political, big-hearted play and will serve as the perfect partner for an animated and informative conversation with three progressive political activists about the nature of activism today and how to get get involved.

Luna Stage Hires New Leadership

Luna Stage Company launched a new era on July 1, when it welcomed Ari Laura Kreith as Artistic Director and Miriam Gardin as Managing Director. The new team has announced a MainStage season featuring four new plays set in locations ranging from Malawi to Manhattan. They are committed to developing work that inspires empathy, provokes dialogue, catalyzes action, and reflects local voices as well as national and international conversations.

Luna Stage 2018-19 Mainstage Season Announced

Luna Stage recently announced its 2018-2019 Mainstage season, featuring four new plays: one world premiere and three regional premieres. The plays are set in locations around the world, each exploring the question of how we come together across cultural and social divides. Luna's season begins October 4 and runs through April 28, and the plays will be Pirira by J. Stephen Brantley, The Assignment by Camilo Almonacid, Roan @ the Gates by Christina Gorman, and Heartland by Gabriel Jason Dean. All performances will take place in Luna's Mainstage theater, at 555 Valley Road, West Orange, NJ. Season Passes are now on sale, and special discounts are available.

Mile Square Theatre Presents The 8th Annual One-Minute Play Festival

The New Jersey One-Minute Play Festival (#1MPF) returns for The 8th Annual New Jersey One-Minute Play Festival! 1MPF is the country's largest and longest continually running community-engaged theatre project, aimed at exploring local topics, ideas, trends, and seeding conversations for, by, and about artists and citizens of NJ. The marathon evening of one-minute plays by some of New Jersey's established and emerging playwrights and directors will have three performances: Saturday, June 30th at 8pm, Sunday, July 1st at 3pm and 7pm. Luna Board Of Directors Announces The Hiring Of New Artistic Director

The Luna Stage Board of Directors announces the departure of Cheryl Katz, Luna's Artistic Director. Cheryl Katz who has been a staff member for over 15 years and Artistic Director for the last 5 years has decided to step down at the end of the current 2017/18 season. To succeed Ms. Katz, the Board has chosen Ari Laura Kreith, who comes to Luna from Theater 167 in New York. She will become Artistic Director at the conclusion of the current season.

Theatre 167 Brings New Musical About Environmental Activist Rachel Carson To Montclair

A new musical about environmental activist Rachel Carson will be presented Jan 19 and 20 at Union Congregational Church in Montclair. The award-winning project with music by Jared Field and book/lyrics by Jessie Field will be directed by Montclair's Ari Laura Kreith and produced by Theatre 167 as part of their 167 West: Art Into Action series.
