Six Rice University students have been selected to participate in the New York Philharmonic Global Academy Fellowship Program.

On October 26th and 28th, Unison Media's performance series The Crypt Sessions will celebrate Halloween early with the world premiere of pianist/composer Gregg Kallor's dramatic canata based on Edgar Allan Poe's The Tell-Tale Heart, featuring mezzo-soprano Elizabeth Pojanowski, cellist Joshua Roman, and Kallor himself at the piano.

The Grammy Award-winning Harlem Quartet teams up with Cuban piano virtuoso and composer Aldo Lopez-Gavilan Today, October 21, 8 PM for a program of jazz standards plus original jazz compositions by Aldo Lopez-Gavilan.  The concert takes place at Wayne State University's Schaver Music Recital Hall, located at 480 W. Hancock (between Cass & Second Avenues) on the campus of Wayne State University.  Tickets, priced at $30 for adults and $15 for students, are available online atwww.CMSDetroit.org or by phone at 248-855-6070.

The New York Philharmonic will present its first-ever live concert broadcast on Facebook with the 2016-17 season Opening Gala Concert, Today, September 21, 2016, launching its 175th anniversary season and The New World Initiative, a season-long, citywide project revolving around Dvo?ak's Symphony No. 9, From the New World, and its theme of "home." Throughout the 2016-17 season, The New World Initiative will explore the New World Symphony through performances, community outreach, and education projects on the occasion of the Philharmonic's 175th anniversary season, honoring the Orchestra's hometown and its role as an adopted home for many.

Music Director Alan Gilbert opens the New York Philharmonic's 175th anniversary season, which also marks his farewell season as Music Director, with three programs featuring Dvo?ak's Symphony No. 9, From the New World - the Philharmonic's first World Premiere of a work written in New York that would become part of the standard repertoire - alongside a New York Premiere, a Philharmonic debut, and other works and soloists closely tied to the Orchestra.

The New York Philharmonic will return to Bravo! Vail in Colorado for the Orchestra's 14th- annual summer residency there, featuring six concerts July 22-29, 2016.

Clarinetist Juan Esteban Martinez, a student at the Peabody Institute, Johns Hopkins University, was named First Place Award winner of 2016 Cynthia Woods Mitchell Young Artist Competition at the 27th Annual Immanuel and Helen Olshan Texas Music Festival (TMF). The Houston-based summer Festival welcomes classical music's rising stars from the world's top-tier music conservatories for a music residency Jun. 7 - July 2.
