BWW Review: A MOON FOR THE MISBEGOTTEN at Playhouse On Park

'There is no present or future-only the past happening over and over again - now." These words from Eugene O'Neill's A MOON FOR THE MISBEGOTTEN illustrate so poignantly the emotions on display on stage at Playhouse on Park in their current production of the O'Neill classic. Whether the past being referenced are the three sons who one after the other have escaped the oppressive farm life with their father Phil Hogan, or the haunting past actor Jim Tyrone has tried to bury with alcohol and women, audiences get a powerful taste of the lives of these vivid and broken characters in this latest production on the Playhouse stage.

The Shakespeare Theatre presents the New Jersey premiere of the award-winning play WITTENBERG by David Davalos, in which he ingeniously manipulates time and space to unite an unusual trio-Doctor Faustus, Martin Luther, and Hamlet-for a witty and provocative debate about faith, fate, existence, and tennis. The 'big questions,' the enigmas that eternally puzzle mankind, are given clever and delightfully quirky forum in this contemporary riff on the age-old and eternal conudrums. BWW Reviews: The Rep's Hilarious and Harrowing Production of GOD OF CARNAGE

How would you react as a parent if your ten year old son was smacked in the face with a stick with resulted in a fat lip and a couple of lost teeth? Would you be able to keep you cool? Would you just immediately contact the police or a lawyer and deal with it from that perspective? Well, I'm not sure how I would handle that type of situation, but playwright Yasmina Reza's GOD OF CARNAGE (with a witty and intelligent adaptation by Christopher Hampton) provides a cautionary tale for any parent faced with just such a dilemma. The Repertory of St. Louis' current production is simply brilliant, showcasing incredible performances and smartly conceived direction. This is heady stuff that makes you laugh and think. I've written it a lot lately, but this is one that should not missed at any cost.
