There's not much hope for the girls at the center of MILK LIKE SUGAR, Kirsten Greenidge's Obie Award-winning play about teenagers seeking fulfillment through pregnancy. Though the writing can be cliched at times, portrayals and direction are truthful. Thanks to excellent performances throughout, the memory of each of the play's imperfect characters will linger.

s I was waiting for my theatre guest to arrive at the Pantages Tuesday night for the opening of ANNIE, a school bus pulled up. Within seconds, a gaggle of little girls spilled out onto the sidewalk shrieking in anticipation and taking pictures of the sparkly marquee on their smart phones. They were only minutes away from seeing her - that spunky little red-haired orphan, Annie, and they could barely contain themselves.

Further casting has been announced for Brave New World, a co-production by Royal & Derngate, Northampton and Touring Consortium Theatre Company, with Abigail McKern, William Postlethwaite,Gruffudd Glyn, Olivia Morgan and Scott Karim joining the previously announced Sophie Ward in the ensemble cast, and Frantic Assembly's Eddie Kay joining the creative team for this world premiere production. Aldous Huxley's ground-breaking novel, newly adapted for the stage by Dawn King with original music by These New Puritans, is opening in Northampton this September before a major national tour.

In June 1989, Ann Starbuck was an American student on a year's sojourn in China where she was also working as a production assistant for CNN. When pro-democracy demonstrations broke out in Beijing's Tiananmen Square, she suddenly found herself swept up in the middle of historic events while assisting camera crews; escorting a dissident to a news interview; making forbidden friendships. She was there and now shares her story to remind us how important it is to speak up for human rights.
