The Apollo Chorus of Chicago will honor teachers by offering them complimentary tickets to its Choral Classics concert tonight, March 7, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. in the University of Chicago's Rockefeller Chapel, 5850 S. Woodlawn Ave. Tickets are limited to one per teacher and available at the door with a school ID. Music education contributes to stronger student engagement and accelerated academic performance, and the Apollo Chorus is thrilled to celebrate educators for all they do to mentor Chicago's children and youth.

On the heels of the hit 135th anniversary engagements of Handel's 'Messiah,' the Apollo Chorus will present a celebration of music from some of history's most iconic composers during their Choral Classics concert in one of Chicago's most dramatic settings. Britten's Simple Symphony, Lauridsen's Lux Aeterna and Schubert's Mass in A-flat will be performed Saturday, March 7 at 7:30 p.m. at University of Chicago's Rockefeller Chapel, 5850 S. Woodlawn Ave. The historic chapel provides an extraordinary venue for the concert, featuring the 120-member choir conducted by the Apollo Chorus Music Director Dr. Stephen Alltop.

On Saturday night July 26, songwriters / co-creators Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman paid a visit to Wichita to see Music Theatre Wichita's all-new production of "Catch Me If You Can," and had many compliments for director / producer Wayne Bryan, choreographer Linda Goodrich, and all the cast members, including Thom Sesma ("The Times They Are A-Changin'," "Miss Saigon," "Sweeney Todd") as FBI agent Carl Hanratty, and Skyler Adams (Pippin understudy in the upcoming national tour of "Pippin") as Frank Jr. Special praise also went to Broadway veterans David Hess and Paula Leggett Chase as Frank's parents, and to Carolyn Anne Miller as love interest Brenda. Lyric Opera of Chicago Holds First BEL CANTO Workshop

Composer Jimmy López and librettist Nilo Cruz heard their music and words come to life recently when members of The Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Opera Center at Lyric Opera of Chicago sang through portions of Bel Canto backstage at the Civic Opera House on Friday, July 11. Sir Andrew Davis conducted the workshop, with pianists Maureen Zoltek and Craig Terry accompanying 11 singers performing multiple roles.

Ryan Opera Center 2013-14 ensemble will perform with members of the Lyric Opera Orchestra in works of Adams, Bizet, Copland, Donizetti, Gershwin, Gounod, Handel, Lehár, Massenet, Mozart, Ravel, Stravinsky, and Walton. Rising Stars in Concert is offered in celebration of an extraordinarily successful year of study and performance for these up-and-coming artists.
