The subject of The 39 Steps isn't an innocent man being chased by spies across Scotland, and it isn't Alfred Hitchcock, although it serves as a fine pastiche of iconic Hitchcock moments. What seems to be on the mind of Patrick Barlow, adapting the 1938 movie more than John Buchan's classic novel, is theatre itself; the nonsensical artificiality that lies at the core of the theatrical experience. It invites us to not just recognize but embrace it in uproarious celebration.

Lazarus Theatre Company's 'Tis Pity She's a Whore has opened at Soho's Tristan Bates Theatre. This production merges John Ford's gory and uncomfortable 17th century classic with the current trend for immersive theatre - once in the auditorium, audience members are greeted by a butler, who proffers a tray of wine. HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD has its official opening this week, with a special gala performance on Saturday 30 July, and production pictures have now been released. The eighth story in the Harry Potter series and the first official Harry Potter story to be presented on stage, is one play presented in two parts. Both parts are intended to be seen in order on the same day (matinee and evening) or on two consecutive evenings.
Based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD is currently in previews in London's West End at the Palace Theatre, where it will open on July 30. Coney Island USA's 34th Annual Mermaid Parade will begin at 1pm on Saturday, June 18, 2016.
