BWW Recaps: IDOL Hits High Notes at the Movies

After two weeks of appropriately vague themes allowed the neophyte contestants to explore their individual artistry, I became more than a little apprehensive when Ryan said the top-11 would be singing the “Songs of the Cinema.” The lame OCEAN'S ELEVEN cold open, completed by the cheesiest “This is AMERICAN IDOL” ever to come out of Seacrest's mouth, made me worry that this could be a cheesetastic disaster. However, I forgot that the majority of this year's remaining contestants have shown a surprising talent for avoiding the cliché, and made this the best week of IDOL all season!

'The Showtune Mosh Pit' for March 12th, 2014

'Cats,' 'Evita' and 'Joseph' all appear, Broadway In Chicago brings new shows and old friends, the 'Annie' film, 'Rent' and next year at the Paramount, two versions of JRB's first show, and Davenport's dishes out the talent.

INTO THE WOODS to Play at Seward County Community College, 4/10 - 4/12

Seward County Community College/Area Technical School Theatre Department has announced their production of Into the Woods, a Tony Award Winning Production with a score by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine. Audiences of all ages are sure to enjoy this Tony-award-winning witty and irreverent reimagining of classic fairytales. An ambivalent Cinderella? A blood-thirsty Little Red Riding Hood? A Prince Charming with a roving eye? A Witch...who raps? They're all among the complex characters in this fractured fairy tale.

Breaking News: INTO THE WOODS to Journey Back to New York! Roundabout to Bring Reimagined Version to Laura Pels Theatre in Winter 2015

Into the Woods is coming back- and not just on the big screen! BroadwayWorld has just confirmed that the musical will return to the New York Stage soon. Roundabout Theatre Company will present McCarter Theatre Center and Fiasco Theatre's acclaimed, re-imagined production of the Tony Award-winning musical classic by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine at the Laura Pels Theatre in Winter 2015.

12 YEARS A SLAVE, DALLAS BUYERS CLUB and NEBRASKA Top 2014 Film Independent Spirit Awards; Winners Announced!

Film Independent, the nonprofit arts organization that produces the Spirit Awards and the Los Angeles Film Festival, handed out top honors to 12 Years a Slave, Dallas Buyers Club and Nebraska at this afternoon's 29th Film Independent Spirit Awards. Blue Jasmine, Fruitvale Station, Blue is the Warmest Color, Short Term 12, This is Martin Bonner and 20 Feet From Stardom also received awards at the ceremony, which is held in a tent on the beach in Santa Monica.

Tony-Winning Composer Jason Robert Brown Set for Red Branch Theatre Company's Benefit Concert, 3/17

Acclaimed and renowned American musical theatre composer Jason Robert Brown will present a benefit cabaret entitled 'I Could Be In Love With Someone Like You' on Monday, March 17 to kick of Red Branch Theatre Company's 2014 season. Howard County restaurant Iron Bridge Wine Company will cater the affair with Irish-themed favorites in celebration of St. Patrick's Day. Proceeds will benefit Red Branch Theatre Company's annual operating budget. This promises to be a once-in-a-lifetime event given the opportunity to see this prominent composer in a rare concert appearance in the theatre's intimate, 100-seat space. To top off the cabaret, Mr. Brown will accompany alums of TYA, Drama Learning Center's teen professional company, and the casts of The Love/Loss Cycle in one of his compositions during the evening's performance.

Brittany Snow Will Return for PITCH PERFECT 2

According to Deadline, Brittany Snow is set to return alongside Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson for the sequel to the surprise hit 2012 musical comedy PITCH PERFECT. Elizabeth Banks will direct, with Kay Cannon also returning to pen the script.

Phase 4 Films has announced that AFTER THE DARK, formerly known as THE PHILOSOPHERS, will receive a national theatrical day-and-date release today, February 7, 2014. The film was penned and directed by John Huddles, and stars James D'Arcy, Bonnie Wright, Daryl Sabara, Sophie Lowe, Rhys Wakefield, Freddie Stroma, Maia Mitchell, Katie Findlay, Jacob Artist, and Erin Moriarty. George Zakk, Cybill Lui, and Huddles produced, with Eddy Sariaatmadja and Balaji Rao serving as executive producers.
