Author Ann Lowrance Allman never imagined her career would take her to the places it did. She once worked in Argentina, traveled through other countries and experienced many adventures. Now, Allman takes a retrospective look at the moments that shaped her life in her new memoir, 'Laughter on My Path: An Educator's Funny and Compelling Encounters with People, Problems, and Pets' (published by WestBow Press).

In a ceremony to be held at the White House today, Thursday, September 10th, President Barack Obama will present the 2015 National Medals of Arts. 

Today, September 10, 2015 at 3 p.m., President Obama will award the 2014 National Medal of Arts to distinguished recipients in the East Room. The First Lady will also be in attendance. Among those honored will be theatre director Ping Chong, Hollywood actress Sally Fields and writer Stephen King. Scroll down for the full list!

Headlands Center for the Arts, located in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area's historic Fort Barry, organizes a variety of public programs that complement the artists' residencies and connect visitors to the creative process. Headlands' artist-renovated Mess Hall, where resident artists enjoy chef-prepared meals, is a key component for many on-site public programs and serves delicious locally sourced, organic meals family style.

Park Avenue Armory announced today that the Thompson Family Foundation has given $65 million to kick-start a programming endowment that will allow the Armory to expand the range and number of groundbreaking works in the performing and visual arts it presents, as well as the scale and reach of its arts education initiatives for underserved public school students.

Park Avenue Armory today announced the appointment of Pierre Audi as Artistic Director. A critically acclaimed director and artistic director, Audi will continue to lead the Dutch National Opera, a role he has held since 1988 while also serving as Artistic Director of the Holland Festival in Amsterdam from 2004 until 2014. He previously was the founding Artistic Director of the pioneering Almeida Theatre in London. Audi will join Park Avenue Armory in October 2015 to begin planning its 2017 season.

Inspired by Jonathan Safran Foer's enigmatic and eponymous novel,Tree of Codes distorts conventional perceptions of space and time, through manipulation of light, reflection, sound, and movement. The work will be performed by a company of soloists and dancers from the Paris Opera Ballet and Company Wayne McGregor.

Venice, Italy, May 7, 2015 – Joan Jonas's They Come to Us without a Word is presented by the MIT List Visual Arts Center in cooperation with the U.S. Department of State at the 56th International Art Exhibition - la Biennale di Venezia. Jonas, a pioneering figure in video and performance art, is occupying the entirety of the Pavilion's five galleries with a new video installation involving drawings and sculptural elements. A new performance by the artist will take place in July at the Teatro Piccolo Arsenale in Venice, with new music by Jonas's long-time sound collaborator, American jazz pianist and composer Jason Moran. 

The MIT List Visual Arts Center, in cooperation with the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, will present Joan Jonas as the representative for the United States at La Biennale di Venezia 56th International Art Exhibition, on view May 9 - November 22, 2015. Jonas, a pioneering figure in performance art and video, will create a new multimedia installation that will transform the entirety of the Pavilion's five galleries into a dynamically immersive environment.

Park Avenue Armory has commissioned dance pioneer Reggie (Regg Roc) Gray and visionary director Peter Sellars to create a performance piece that evolves the tradition of flex, the Brooklyn-born street dance. Characterized by sharp, rhythmic contortion, pausing, snapping, gliding, bone-breaking, and animated showmanship, the flex form evolved from the Jamaican bruk-up style popular in the dance halls and reggae clubs of Brooklyn in the 1990s. Opening today, March 25 and marking the first major presentation of the Armory's 2015 artistic season, FLEXN transforms the dance from its individual, combative style to create a collaborative work of social commentary inspired by both personal experience and current events. A series of public discussions and education initiatives complement the presentation.
