DO-GOODER World Premiere to Open 16th Street's New Season, 1/16-2/22

The world premiere of Laura Jacqmin's DO-GOODER opens 16th Street Theater's Season Seven performing January 16 - February 22, 2014 at 6420 16th Street in Berwyn, with a press opening of Thursday, January 23 at 7:30 PM. Directed by Artistic Director Ann Filmer, Do-Gooder is the first show in 16th Street's Season Seven 2014: How to Be Good.

New Chicago Artists Join the Goodman's Artistic Team for 2013-14 Playwrights Unit

A new crop of local talent joins Goodman Theatre's artistic team for the 2013/2014 Season. The four Chicago-based writers named to the fourth season of the Playwrights Unit-a year-long residency program designed to support and develop new works-include Andrew Hinderaker, Gift Theatre ensemble member; Mickle Maher, cofounder of Theater Oobleck; Anne Garcia-Romero, a resident playwright at Chicago Dramatists; and Laura Schellhardt, who oversees undergraduate playwriting at Northwestern University. A partnership with Chicago Dramatists, the Playwrights Unit meets twice per month with members of the Goodman's artistic team to discuss their plays-in-progress and provide feedback for one another. The program includes readings of the playwrights' works-in-progress at Chicago Dramatists in early 2014, and culminates in summer 2014 with staged readings of their completed works at the Goodman. Playwrights Unit alumni include Greg Allen, Alice Austen, Ike Holter and Christopher Oscar Peña (2012/2013 Season); Philip Dawkins, Nambi E. Kelley, Elaine Romero and Martin Zimmerman (2011/2012 Season); and Seth Bockley, Lisa Dillman, Laura Jacqmin and Rohina Malik (2010/2011 Season).

16th Street Theater and North Berwyn Park District debut their Season Seven 2014: How To Be Good in a FREE event on Saturday, December 7 from 5:00 - 6:30 PM at Berwyn's newest music venue WIRE at 6815 Roosevelt Road in Berwyn, Illinois. Enjoy WIRE's cash bar while 16th Street performs excerpts from their 2014 Season Seven featuring four premieres by four female writers: Laura Jacqmin, Andrea Thome, EM Lewis and playwright-in-residence Shayne Kennedy. Associate Artist and scenic designer Kurt Sharp will also be remembered at this event.

League of Chicago Theatres Names 16th Street Theater as BIC Emerging Theater Award Winner

The League of Chicago Theatres announces 16th Street Theater as the recipient of the 2013 Broadway In Chicago Emerging Theater Award. 16th Street Theater will receive a $5,000 award, consultation with Broadway In Chicago staff members, and a marketing package that includes advertising support.

Jimmy McDermott Named Goodman Theatre Directing Fellow

Goodman Theatre announces Jimmy McDermott, former associate artistic director at Writers' Theatre, as the recipient of the 2012/2013 Season Michael Maggio Directing Fellow for Chicago-based directors. As a fellow, McDermott will receive a stipend and the opportunity to assist on a Goodman production-from early research and design through the casting and rehearsal process to the opening-and become involved in the Goodman's artistic team. Previous Maggio Fellows include Lynn Ann Bernatowicz (2002/2003), Mignon McPherson Nance (2003/2004), Ann Filmer (2005/2006), Dado (2006/2007), Anthony Moseley (2007/2008), Joanie Schultz (2009/2010) and Anna Bahow (2011/2012).

The world premiere of Will Dunne's Love and Drowning has been extended through November 3, 2012 at 16th Street Theater, a program of the North Berwyn Park District. Love and Drowning is the final offering in 16th Street's Season Five 2012: Love, Faith and the Unknown. Firecat Projects and 16th Street Theater present Nickel History: The Nation of Heat, written and performed by Tony Fitzpatrick with Stan Klein July 19-August 5 in Steppenwolf's Garage Theatre, 1624 N. Halsted with a press opening of Thursday, July 19 at 8 p.m. Adapted and directed by 16th Street artistic director Ann Filmer, Nickel History features Carolyn Hoerdemann, film and video art by Kristin Reeves, and music by John Rice, Anna Fermin and Buzz Kilman. Singer-songwriter Joe Pug is a guest performer on July 19-20.
