Tony Winner John Guare to Lead Discussion on Tennessee Williams at Playhouse Creatures Theatre Company

Playhouse Creatures Theatre Company will host a post-show discussion centered on the later work of Tennessee Williams following the March 5, 3pm performance of Tennessee Williams 1982. The participants include Tony-winning playwright John Guare, scholar and writer David Savran, scholar and current Tennessee Williams' editor Thomas Keith, and professor and writer Annette J. Saddik.

Cast Announced for TENNESSEE WILLIAMS 1982 at Walkerspace

Playhouse Creatures Theatre Company (Producing Artistic Director Joseph W. Rodriguez) presents Tennessee Williams 1982, an evening of two, little known, one-act plays by Tennessee Williams, both completed in 1982, the year before the playwrights death. Directed by Cosmin Chivu (2013 revival of Tennessee Williams' The Mutilated), Tennessee Williams 1982 features the world premiere of A Recluse and His Guest and New York Premiere of The Remarkable Rooming-House of Mme. Le Monde. These two chamber pieces epitomize the theatrical imagination the playwright employed throughout his long writing career combined with the freedom he found later in life. Crisply written black comedies, these fierce plays center on the demands of unlikely human relationships in exotic locales fraught with tension.

Tennessee Williams' THE MUTILATED Extends Through 12/1 at New Ohio Theatre

In response to popular demand, the first New York revival in 38 years of The Mutilated by Tennessee Williams will extend to December 1. Directed by Cosmin Chivu and starring legendary avant-garde performers Mink Stole and Penny Arcade, the production features original music composed by Jesse Selengut, performed by the three-piece combo Tin Pan. In anticipation of the production's opening, Charles Isherwood in The New York Times wrote, "What Penny Arcade and Mink Stole will make of Williams's radiantly lurid characters could well be one of the livelier sideshows in a theatrical season rich in promising double acts.'

Like nearly all of Williams's later, more experimental plays, The Mutilated was met with stinging reviews, disappointment and even anger when it premiered on Broadway in 1966 (with The Gnadiges Fraulein, under the collective title Slapstick Tragedy). "I know Mr. Williams is trying to do something ambitious and ambiguous but, gee, I wish he would just give something old and square like A Streetcar Named Desire," wrote John McClain in the New York Journal-American. BWW Reviews: Rep Opens Season with Sexy and Captivating Production of CABARET

The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis kicks off their season with a lively and captivating production of CABARET, Kander and Ebb's dark and cynical examination of life in Berlin prior to Hitler's ascension. This sleek, sexy, abrasive and poignant musical is solidly performed by both the cast, and the musicians portraying the Kit Kat Club house band. There's a lot of fine theatre taking place in St. Louis at the moment, but you'd be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't take the time to check out this decadent delight.
