Dance New Amsterdam Announces 2013-14 DNA PRESENTS Season

Though Dance New Amsterdam (DNA) filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy this past May, the organization had a successful first filing and continues forward while working with its community ties and partnerships. Artistic and Executive Director Catherine Peila has announced an exciting roster of both new and returning artists as part of DNA PRESENTS 2013-14 season. To kick off the season, a launch party on September 17, 2013 will feature performances from season artists and special guests DJ's. The A.O. Movement Collective opens the season October 25. DNA introduces new projects with Artists in Residence Daniel Clifton , Catherine Galasso, Monstah Black and Kendra Portier, with return LateNite alums Victoria Libertore and Jaamil Olawale Kosoko

ICT to Present John Logan's RED, 8/24-9/15

When abstract expressionist and celebrated bad boy of the art world Mark Rothko lands a commission to create a series of large murals, he hires an assistant - and what takes place between them is a visceral experience that spills off the stage and will forever change the way you see the color red. International City Theatre presents Red, the fiery and fiercely funny Tony, Drama Desk and Drama League Award winner for Best Play by John Logan. Directed by caryn desai [sic] and starring Tony Abatemarco as Rothko and Patrick Stafford as his young assistant, Ken,Red opens Aug. 23 at International City Theatre in the Long Beach Performing Arts Center. Two low-priced previews take place on Aug. 21 and 22.

John Mincks Stars in Firehouse Theatre Project's POP!, Beg. Tonight

Firehouse Theatre Project presents POP!, a new musical with book and lyrics by Maggie-Kate Coleman and music by Anna K. Jacobs, directed by Jase Smith. Sponsored in part by Yale Repertory Theatre's Binger Center for New Theatre, POP! will play for 18 performances, today, July 11 - August 10. Opening Night is Friday, July 12.

MTV Enlists Brooklyn-Based Artist Kaws to Redesign 'Moonman' for 2013 VMAs

MTV, a unit of Viacom Inc. (NASDAQ: VIAB, VIA), has teamed up with the world-renowned, Brooklyn-based artist KAWS to reimagine the MTV Moonman for the 2013 MTV “Video Music Awards” -- the first major awards show to ever take place in Brooklyn, airing LIVE from Barclays Center on August 25, 2013. An artist whose work has been presented at prestigious museums and galleries from Los Angeles to Paris, Tokyo and Hong Kong, KAWS' art will be present throughout the award show, influencing the design for both the set and the logo. Additionally, artists who win a 2013 “Video Music Award” will take home a special-edition KAWS Moonman, which was created exclusively for this year's show.

Film Society of Lincoln Center to Screen WATCH THAT MAN: DAVID BOWIE, MOVIE STAR, 8/2-8

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today a weeklong series focusing on David Bowie, the actor. 2013 has seen the re-emergence of the always fascinating musician, performer and artist with the release of a new album (“The Next Day”) and a sold-out museum exhibition in London (David Bowie Is). In honor of his genius for shape shifting, the Film Society will present Watch That Man: David Bowie, Movie Star (August 2-8), a retrospective of what is arguably his finest work on the big screen—plus two special rarities from the BBC archives, one of which has never been seen in the U.S.

On the heels of Co-Artistic Director, Jim Lasko's return from distinguished year-long Harvard-based Loeb Fellowship, he will speak to frame the evenings event. The event will feature a keynote given by Trung Le, Principal Architect for Cannon Design's education consultancy group, an advocate for incorporating multiple intelligences and learning styles in the design of education environments, and co-author of The Third Teacher with Bruce Mao.

NY Phil and Giants Are Small Open A DANCER'S DREAM Tonight

The New York Philharmonic will present A Dancer's Dream: Two Works by Stravinsky, a multidisciplinary, theatrical reimagining of the ballets The Fairy's Kiss and Petrushka, created by Giants Are Small. Sara Mearns, New York City Ballet principal dancer, will star in the production, which will be conducted by Music Director Alan Gilbert, directed and designed by Doug Fitch, choreographed by Karole Armitage, and produced by Edouard Getaz - tonight, June 27, 2013, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, June 28 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, June 29 at 8:00 p.m.

Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara to Present Inaugural Exhibits by Dasha Shishkin & Edgar Orlaineta Next Month

A longstanding west-coast anchor for creative expression and the only venue between Los Angeles and San Francisco focused solely on contemporary art, the Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara (MCA Santa Barbara), formerly known as Santa Barbara Contemporary Arts Forum (CAF), presents its inaugural exhibition of work by New York-based artist Dasha Shishkin and a solo project by Mexico City-based Edgar Orlaineta. Set for Fourth of July weekend, the July 6 openings kick off a month-long celebration of the new MCA Santa Barbara, which will include artist meet-and-greets, a VIP Founders Circle reception, and new public outreach initiatives, such as the Visiting Artist Summer Series. Both exhibitions will be on view July 6 through September 8, 2013.

THE MAD LOVER IN ME IS THE CRAZY ARTIST IN YOU Set for Dixon Place, 7/10

The Mad Lover In Me Is The Crazy Artist In You, based on the real-life adventures of two eccentric expatriates who find love in New York City and transform their private lives into a public exhibit of mischief and art, will play Dixon Place on July 10. Directed by Zach Udko and performed by Filip Noterdaeme and Daniel Isengart. Featuring Penny Arcade, with special appearances by Phoebe Legere and Flotilla DeBarge.

Chatham Lodging Completes Acquisition of the Hyatt Place Downtown Pittsburgh

Chatham Lodging Trust (NYSE: CLDT), a hotel real estate investment trust (REIT) focused on investing in upscale extended-stay hotels and premium branded select-service hotels, today announced that it has completed its acquisition of the 178-room Hyatt Place Pittsburgh/North Shore in Pittsburgh, Pa., for a purchase price of $40 million, plus customary pro-rated amounts and closing costs.
