This weekend I visited a little gem filled with history, tucked away within a short drive from Charlotte, the Meroney Theater in Salisbury, NC. The original home to vaudeville and now home to The Piedmont Players. This group put on a sublimely wonderful production of CABARET. The cast was lead by Emily Ramirez, who played the promiscuously innocent, Sally Bowles. I couldn't take my eyes off Ramirez. She captured the character of Bowles' sexual persona onstage with charged dancing and emotionally connected vocals.
Piedmont Players Theatre along with Fibrant presents THE NERD by Larry Shue. Opening Night at the Meroney Theater, tonight, July 25 at 7:30pm. Join the cast for a complimentary reception on the 3rd floor of the Meroney immediately following the opening performance.
One of the funniest plays ever written, this extraordinarily inventive, side-splitting comedy was first presented by the Milwaukee Repertory Theatre, then produced in Great Britain, then went on to Broadway. The action centers on the hilarious dilemma of a young architect who is visited by a man he's never met but who saved his life in Vietnam-the visitor turning out to be an incredibly inept, hopelessly stupid 'nerd' who outstays his welcome with a vengeance.
