The National Alliance for Musical Theatre (NAMT) announced today the eight musicals selected to be part of the 24th Annual Festival of New Musicals at New World Stages (340 West 50th Street).
Slavic Soul Party! will perform on Thursday, July 19 as part of The Jewish Museum's popular SummerNights concert series. Slavic Soul Party! offers virtuoso brass band music mixing Balkan and Gypsy sounds with American jazz and soul. DOORS OPEN AT 7 PM. THE CONCERT BEGINS AT 7:30 PM. Attendees will also enjoy an open bar with beer and wine, and free ice cream courtesy of Chozen. The Jewish Museum is located at Fifth Avenue at 92nd Street, Manhattan.
Composers Anthony Cheung and Franck Krawczyk will join Peter Eotvos in sharing The Marie-Josee Kravis Prize for New Music at the New York Philharmonic at the request of inaugural recipient Henri Dutilleux, it was announced this evening from the stage in Avery Fisher Hall during a special concert dedicated to Dutilleux's music.
TRIASSIC PARQ The Musical, presented by Amas Musical Theatre, is set to play a limited Off-Broadway engagement at the SoHo Playhouse, June 12th through August 5th. Opening night is Wednesday, June 27th. Winner of 2010's Best Musical Award at FringeNYC, TRIASSIC PARQ is written by Marshall Pailet, Bryce Norbitz and Steve Wargo, with direction by Marshall Pailet, choreography by Kyle Mullins and musical direction by Zak Sandler. The song was inducted into the GRAMMY Hall of Fame at this year's ceremony in February. Urban and dance music phenomenon COLONEL ABRAMS will perform his biggest hits, including "Trapped," "I'm Not Gonna Let You" and "How Soon We Forget." Also performing will be THE HIT MEN, a group of six guys who made, played, sang and recorded the hits of the '60s, '70s and '80s. With over 40 albums, La Sonora Ponceña has entertained audiences for nearly 60 years. Led by founder Enrique "Quique" Lucca and his son, piano virtuoso "Papo" Lucca, the group is known for such classic hits as "Hachero pa' un palo" and "Fuego en el 23." Enrique "Quique" Lucca recently celebrated his 99th birthday. Also appearing at this concert will be a band that burst onto the Latin music scene, 8 Y MAS, a collaboration of the musicians who have taken salsa back to its original flavor as they play "La musica de ayer, con el sonido de hoy" (yesterday's music with today's sound).
