Theatre Lunatico Presents DRACULA

Theatre Lunatico presents Steven Dietz's adaptation of Bram Stoker's DRACULA, an aptly hair-raising theatrical adventure for the Halloween season. The dark story is richly told by a diverse, physical theatre ensemble utilizing movement and vocals to create an atmosphere of the bizarre and grotesque. Theatre Lunatico casts women in the key roles of Van Helsing and Renfield, furthering the company's goal to create unique performance opportunities for women.

Word For Word Celebrates 25th Anniversary With Stories By Tobias Wolff and George Saunders

Word for Word celebrates this 25th season with a rare production "Anniversary! Stories by Tobias Wolff and George Saunders" featuring Wolff's "Deep Kiss" and Saunders' "Victory Lap," works by two of the companies favorite authors, directed by Joel Mullennix and Delia MacDougall. "Anniversary! Stories by Tobias Wolff and George Saunders" opens with a press night Saturday August 11, 8pm (Preview Aug 8, 9 & 10) running through September 2 at Z Space Main Stage in San Francisco's Mission/SOMA district. Tobias Wolff and George Saunders are brilliant performers in the short story form, and the company feels lucky to be staging their stories for its 25th Anniversary. Over the past quarter century, Word for Word has had the pleasure and the honor to work with some of the best writers of all time.

Shelley Beard Santore Named Grand Prize Winner of Philadelphia Youth Orchestra's 2018 Ovation Award

Music teacher Shelley Beard Santore, of Lansdowne, PA, the Suzuki Academy Department Head and Master Faculty member at The Music School of Delaware, had many supporters in the audience when she was named as the grand prize winner in the Fifth Annual Philadelphia Youth Orchestra (PYO) Ovation Award in a surprise presentation. It took place in Verizon Hall at the Kimmel Center on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at 3 p.m. during the 78th Annual Philadelphia Youth Orchestra Festival Concert. The Philadelphia Youth Orchestra's Ovation Award for Inspiration and Outstanding Leadership in Music Education has been honoring excellence in music instruction since its inaugural year in 2014.

Philadelphia Youth Orchestra Announces 78th Annual Festival Concert With Presentation Of Ovation Award

The Philadelphia Youth Orchestra's 2017-18 season has brought an exhilarating year of music education and performances to over 120 talented musicians, ages 14 to 21, marking the organization's 78th Anniversary. The Philadelphia Youth Orchestra 78th Annual Festival Concert will feature the World Premiere of Manhattan Nights by Kevin Day, who is the Second Annual Young Composers Competition Winner, A Salute to Leonard Bernstein with Symphonic Dances from West Side Story and Strauss' Ein Heldenleben, Op. 40. The concert will take place on Sunday, June 10, at 3 p.m., in Verizon Hall at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. Phila. Youth Orchestra Bravo Brass Ensemble Showcase Their Skills At 15th Annual Festival Concert

Philadelphia Youth Orchestra's Bravo Brass ensemble will proudly perform at their 15th Annual Festival Concert on Saturday, June 2 at 7:30 p.m. The performance will take place in the beautiful St. Mark's Church, 1625 Locust Street in Philadelphia, PA.  Entitled Brass by Popular Demand, the program of music by John Williams, Mozart, Bernstein, Grieg, Gabrieli, Holst, and Wagner was selected based on responses to a public survey posted during the month of February.  The concert will also feature three soloists-current Bravo Brass trumpeter Erik Larson, trombone alumnus Jason Stein, and Bravo Brass bass trombone faculty member and associate conductor Barry McCommon.

Phila. Young Musicians Orchestra Announces 2nd Annual Festival Concert

The Philadelphia Young Musicians Orchestra (PYMO) will present its Second Annual Festival Concert on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 4 p.m. The free concert will take place at the Temple Performing Arts Center, located at 1837 North Broad Street in Philadelphia, PA.

Philadelphia Youth Orchestra Perform in 8th Annual Festival Concert

The talented young musicians of the Tune Up Philly (TUP), The Philadelphia Youth Orchestra (PYO)'s community engagement program ensemble, will be performing in its 8th Annual Festival Concert. This event is free and will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 1 p.m. at Temple Performing Arts Center (TPAC), located at 1837 North Broad Street, Philadelphia.

Phila. Young Artists Orchestra Performs 23rd Annual Festival Concert

On Sunday, May 13, 2018 at 3 p.m. the Philadelphia Young Artists Orchestra (PYAO) members, ages 12 to 18, will present its 23rd Annual Festival Concert. The concert will be held in the Perelman Theater at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, 300 S. Broad Street, Philadelphia. Conducted by Maestra Rosalind Erwin, the concert will feature the winner of the Fourth Annual Young Artists Solo Competition winner, Lea Wang, violinist. Wang, who placed first in the competition out of more than a dozen applicants, will perform Pablo de Sarasate's Zigeunerweisen ("Gypsy Airs") and receive a $500 scholarship award from PYO. She resides in Holland in Bucks County, PA and is an 8th grade student at Holland Middle School.

Philadelphia Region Youth String Music Musicians to Perform in 11th Annual Concert

At the 11th Annual Festival Concert, the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra's PRYSM (Philadelphia Region Youth String Music) and PRYSM-YA (PRYSM Young Artists) ensembles will perform, demonstrating their outstanding musical talent. The concert will take place on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at 2 p.m. and will be held in Centennial Hall at the Haverford School, located at 750 Lancaster Avenue in Haverford, PA.

Philadelphia Youth Orchestra Announces 2018-2019 Season Auditions

Auditions for Philadelphia Youth Orchestra (PYO), one of the nation's most respected youth orchestra institutions, will take place between May 20 and June 9, 2018. Young and skilled wind, string, brass, percussion and harp players ages 6 to 21 will have the opportunity to earn membership in these unique program divisions: the flagship Philadelphia Youth Orchestra (PYO), Philadelphia Young Artists Orchestra (PYAO), Philadelphia Young Musicians Orchestra (PYMO), Bravo Brass, and Philadelphia Region Youth String Music (PRYSM). Training tomorrow's leaders, the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra organization engages young musicians from the tri-state region in pursuing musical excellence through learning responsibility, discipline, and character skills that enable students to build future success.

The Philadelphia Youth Orchestra Winners Of National Young Composers Competition Announced

For the second year, The Philadelphia Youth Orchestra (PYO) conducted a nationwide search to name the three winners in the PYO Young Composers Competition. There were 54 entries by composers ages 18 to 22 who submitted original orchestral scores. The winners were selected by PYO's music director, Maestro Louis Scaglione, and the director of the Young Composers Competition, Sheridan Seyfried, who is a Philadelphia-based composer, and a PYO alumnus as well as a graduate of The Curtis Institute of Music where he studied with Richard Danielpour, Jennifer Higdon and Ned Rorem.

Phila. Youth Orchestra Students Recognized in 2017-2018 All-City Concerto Competition

The students of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra (PYO) organization continue to stand out for their talent.  All eight finalists, and the first place winner, of the 2018 School District of Philadelphia's All-City Concerto Competition are current PYO members. The School District of Philadelphia's All-City Music Program, consisting of a full symphonic orchestra, concert band, and choir, is audition based and includes the top performing student musicians within The School District of Philadelphia.

Phila. Youth Orchestra Concert to be Conducted by Maestro Louis Scaglione

The Philadelphia Youth Orchestra (PYO), under the direction of Maestro Louis Scaglione, will perform its second concert of the season in Verizon Hall of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday, February 25th, at 3 p.m., 300 S. Broad Street in Philadelphia. The orchestra, consisting of student musicians between the ages of 14 -21, will perform three substantial works from the professional symphonic repertoire:  Brahms' Third Symphony, Stravinsky's Petrushka and Ravel's La Valse.

The Philadelphia Youth Orchestra Awards 5th Annual Ovation Award

Music teachers make a tremendous impact on the lives of their students and, for the fifth year, the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra and several partners search for an outstanding and inspirational teacher to honor with the PYO Ovation Award. Nominators who are current or former students and of any age, submit a 250-word statement about "the music teacher who changed my life." The PYO Ovation Award is endowed by H.E.L.P. Foundation and sponsored by Jacobs Music Company, J.W. Pepper and WRTI-90.1 FM.
