BWW Review: Sex, Pizza and Slasher Flicks in Erica Schmidt's ALL THE FINE BOYS

Straight cisgender teenage boys looking to lose their virginity are generally accepted as a staple of coming-of-age comedies that make movie theatre box offices hum. But when it comes to the matter of young girls being eager to have their first sexual encounter, audiences tend to prefer a bit more delicacy.

BWW Review: Experience the Timeless Magic of the New Vic's THE AGING MAGICIAN

In association with Beth Morrison Projects and VisionIntoArt, The Aging Magician now celebrates its off Broadway premiere with The New 42nd Street at the New Victory Theater - a theater dedicated to providing children with quality (and usually fantastic) productions in the very heart of Times Square. The Aging Magician is a sensuous piece that is as much a feast for the mind as it is a tug to the heartstrings. It is enigmatic, almost like being lost in a Tim Burton inspired circus with a need to explain the sadness of nostalgia, mixed in with the wonder of keeping those memories alive; it is a show that is perhaps more magical to adults than to children, adults who can understand the almost ethereal pull of a past one does not wish to be gone.

BWW Review: World Premiere THE WHOLEHEARTED Proves to be a Tour-de-Force Solo Show for Suli Holum

Set in a boxing gym where female boxing phenom Dee Crosby (Suli Holum) is preparing for a whole new fight, THE WHOLEHEARTED looks past the neatly-packaged Cinderella stories of sports coverage into the real world of a woman grappling with lost love and her abusive husband, Charlie, who is being released from prison on the date we meet her. This tale of revenge and redemption addresses the violence of love, the sexuality of sports, and the high cost of fame through the use of live projections, filmed interviews broadcast on an overhead screen resembling a scoreboard. and a thumping rockabilly score to explore the line between personal fantasy and hard reality - and what it takes to be a champion.
