Robin Becker's INTO SUNLIGHT to Make NYC Premiere at Florence Gould Hall, 10/25-27

Robin Becker didn't blink when she decided to create a dance based on Pulitzer Prize winning author David Maraniss's book, "They Marched Into Sunlight," a 530-page cultural history of war and protest set in 1967. Becker's result, "Into Sunlight," a tour de force of imagination and emotional power, becomes remarkably relevant given the moral dilemmas America is currently facing in the world. The dance receives its New York premiere at Florence Gould Hall, Ocotber 25-27.

ABT to Host Frederic Franklin Memorial Celebration, 10/14

American Ballet Theatre will host a memorial celebration for beloved colleague and ballet legend Frederic Franklin on Monday, October 14 at 4:30 P.M. in the Concert Hall at LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts. The memorial will be highlighted by film tributes as well as performances and guest speakers from many of the companies with which Franklin was affiliated, including ABT, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Richmond Ballet, Tulsa Ballet and Cincinnati Ballet.

Erica Aubrey, Brittney Lee Hamilton & More to Lead Amas Musical Theatre's COOKIN'! Readings Tonight

Amas Musical Theatre (Donna Trinkoff/Artistic Producer) will present three free staged readings of 'Cookin'!', a new musical by Debra Barsha and Hollye Levin, with musical director Gillian Berkowitz, directed by Lynne Taylor-Corbett. The readings will take place tonight, September 25 @ 6pm and Thursday, September 26 at 1:00pm and 5pm, at The Players Theatre, 115 MacDougal Street.

Saks Relaunches Fragrance Floor with Ten Days of Events

This Thursday, Saks Fifth Avenue will debut its revamped Fragrance Floor: 'a new world of exploration for fragrance aficionados' on the ground level of the 5th Avenue flagship. At the core of the space is a Fragrance Bar surrounded by ten shop-in-shops from brands like Le Labo, Diptyque, Hermes, Chanel, and Kilian.

Oregon Ballet Theatre Presents DREAM, 10/12 - 10/19

Marking both the inaugural performances under newly appointed Artistic Director Kevin Irving and the final season of Principal Dancer Alison Roper, Oregon Ballet Theatre will present their opening program, DREAM, at the grand Keller Auditorium.

Ann Hampton Callaway to Join BSO on THE STREISAND SONGBOOK, 10/10-13

Principal Pops Conductor Jack Everly kicks off his 11th Pops season with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) in The Streisand Songbook with Ann Hampton Callaway on Thursday, October 10 at 8 p.m. at the Music Center at Strathmore, Friday, October 11 and Saturday, October 12 at 8 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, and Sunday, October 13 at 3 p.m. at the Meyerhoff. Singer-songwriter Ann Hampton Callaway will sing some of Barbra Streisand's biggest hits, including favorites from Broadway musicals as Funny Girl to film hits such as A Star is Born. Furthermore, Maestro Everly will lead Callaway in a post-concert performance in the Meyerhoff lobby on Friday, October 11. Please see below for complete program details.

Northrop at the University of Minnesota presents Hubbard Dance Street Chicago tonight, Sep 21 at 8:00 pm at the State Theatre as the opening performance in the 2013-14 Northrop dance season.

American Repertory Ballet to Perform at PAC's Hamilton Stage & Raritan Valley Community College Next Month

American Repertory Ballet will be bringing 2 different mixed-bill productions to Union County Performing Arts Center's Hamilton Stage in Rahway, NJ and to The Theatre at Raritan Valley Community College in Branchburg, NJ over the course of two weekends in October. The company will present American Artist Showcase, featuring works by Gerald Arpino, Patrick Corbin, and ARB Resident Choreographer Mary Barton, at Hamilton Stage October 18-19. On October 26 at 8:00pm, Premieres will take the stage at The Theatre at Raritan Valley Community College, showcasing brand new works by Kirk Peterson and Mary Barton, and more.

The Houston debut of Jessica Lang Dance will kick off Society for the Performing Arts' 2013-2014 season tonight, Sept. 20, 2013, at 8 p.m. in Wortham Center's Cullen Theater.

American Repertory Ballet Brings FALL KICK-OFF Shows to Rider University Tonight

American Repertory Ballet will kick off its 2013-14 season at Rider University's Bart Luedeke Center Theater in Lawrenceville, NJ today and tomorrow, September 20 and 21 at 7:30pm. ARB's Fall Kick-Off production features Artistic Director Douglas Martin's critically acclaimed Rite of Spring, Patrick Corbin's lyrical Caress, ARB Resident Choreographer Mary Barton's vibrant Five Men and a Concerto, and an excerpt from Martin's Romeo and Juliet. The program presents repertory appealing to a wide variety of tastes, showcasing the diverse range of American Repertory Ballet's dancers and choreographers.

Roberto Bolle and Friends was a special evening of dance featuring international Ballet Stars. Roberto Bolle, principal dancer of the American Ballet Theatre and Ètoile of La Scala in Milan acted as both artistic director and star as he danced alongside the world's top dancers performing pas de deux and solos from both classic and modern ballets. Joffrey Ballet Presents LA BAYADÈRE: THE TEMPLE DANCER, 10/16

Less than a month after its special "Russian Masters" program, The Joffrey Ballet transports Chicago audiences to India with the Chicago Premiere of La Bayadere: The Temple Dancer, choreographed by Houston Ballet Artistic Director Stanton Welch. La Bayadere is presented over 10 performances with orchestral accompaniment by The Chicago Philharmonic conducted by Joffrey Music Director Scott Speck, at the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University, 50 E. Congress Parkway, October 16 - 27.

Houston Ballet Opens THE MERRY WIDOW Tonight

From tonight, September 19-29, 2013, Houston Ballet presents Ronald Hynd's comic and enchanting The Merry Widow.Adapted from Franz Lehar's beloved operetta, the internationally-admired British choreographer Ronald Hynd adds a new layer of lavish spectacle and choreography to the original story of The Merry Widow to create an irresistibly charming and intoxicating tale of high jinks, finance, romance, and intrigue. The production features magnificent scenery and costumes by Italian designer Roberta Guidi di Bagno. The company will give seven performances at Wortham Theater Center in downtown Houston.

Mikhail Baryshnikov serves as the Honorary Chairman for Uptown Downtown, a special one-night-only extravaganza to benefit the Abrons Arts Center on October 14. Bringing together the brightest lights of New York City's uptown and downtown performance scenes, the evening will feature Kyle Abraham, Joey Arias, Jack Ferver + James Whiteside, Ellen Greene, Robert La Fosse, Bebe Neuwirth, Philippe Petit, and other special guests. BWW Interviews: Stephen Pier - Heart to Hartt

Stephen Pier has achieved a uniquely rich and varied career as a dancer, teacher, and choreographer. His credits as a performer include many years with the Jose Limon Dance Company where the New York press hailed him as '...one of the most gifted dancers on the modern dance scene today.' He went on to become a leading soloist with the Hamburg Ballet in Germany, performing the title roles in John Neumeier's Othello and Saint Matthew's Passion, and creating numerous other major roles during his nine years with the company. As a member of the Royal Danish Ballet for six years, Mr. Pier had the privilege of dancing leading roles in works of Bournonville, Balanchine, MacMillan, Bejart, and collaborating with many of Europe's finest contemporary choreographers.

American Ballet Theatre Announces New Project Plie Initiative

American Ballet Theatre (ABT) has announced the formation of Project Plie, a comprehensive initiative to increase racial and ethnic representation in ballet and to diversify America's ballet companies. Project Plie seeks to combine training and support of ballet students and dance teachers from communities previously underrepresented in American ballet companies with the creation of a nationwide partner network of professional ballet companies who are committed to diversity. In addition, Project Plie will include a new partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America to introduce participants to ballet and identify children for future training.
