American Repertory Ballet Hosts 'Meet the Company' On Pointe Event Today

American Repertory Ballet will be kicking off its monthly On Pointe Enrichment Series with their annual 'Meet the Company' event today, September 13, 2013 at 12:00pm, noon, at Princeton Ballet School - 301 North Harrison Street (above McCaffrey's supermarket in the Princeton Shopping Center). On Pointe events are usually held at 5:15pm. This is a special lunch-hour On Pointe in light of the beginning of Yom Kippur this evening, September 13, 2013.

The Morrison Center announces its signature Velma V. Morrison Family Theatre Series. Erica Aubrey, Brittney Lee Hamilton & More to Lead Amas Musical Theatre's COOKIN'! Readings, 9/25-26

Amas Musical Theatre (Donna Trinkoff/Artistic Producer) will present three free staged readings of 'Cookin'!', a new musical by Debra Barsha and Hollye Levin, with musical director Gillian Berkowitz, directed by Lynne Taylor-Corbett. The readings will take placeon Wednesday, September 25 @ 6pm and Thursday, September 26 at 1:00pm and 5pm, at The Players Theatre, 115 MacDougal Street. American Ballet Theatre's JKO School Receives $2 Million Gift

The Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis (JKO) School at American Ballet Theatre has received a $2 million donation from an anonymous donor to expand the School's training programs, fund operations and establish additional scholarship programs. The donation, announced yesterday by Rachel Moore, CEO of American Ballet Theatre, represents the largest gift made to the JKO School to date.

Smuin Ballet Kicks Off 20th Anniversary Season with Montana Tour Today

To kick off its 20th Anniversary Season, Smuin Ballet will head to Montana, the home state of late founder Michael Smuin, to present a tour that includes Smuin's much-loved Sinatra ballet Fly Me to the Moon, as well as the acclaimed Dear Miss Cline from company Choreographer-in-Residence Amy Seiwert and Jazzin', a saucy and seductive work by Darrell Grand Moultrie. Smuin Ballet's Montana tour will play today and tomorrow, September 8 - 9 in Michael Smuin's hometown of Missoula at the Montana Repertory Theatre and September 13 at the Mansfield Theatre, Great Falls. Tickets are available by calling each venue's box office (see info at the end of the release). The Great Falls performance will benefit McLaughlin Research Institute for Biomedical Sciences, with which Smuin Ballet shares a close connection.

NPR's Ari Shapiro Performs at BSO Gala Tonight

Signaling the start of the social season, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) will hold its annual Gala Concert tonight, September 7 at 8:30 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. This year's Gala will be led by BSO Principal Pops Conductor Jack Everly. The concert features the band Pink Martini with vocalist Storm Large, who will collaborate with the BSO for an intoxicating mix of cabaret, samba, jazz and Hollywood musicals. National Public Radio's news correspondent Ari Shapiro, a frequent guest vocalist with Pink Martini, will perform.

Houston Ballet Launches 44th Season with Four Premieres Today

From tonight, September 5-15, 2013, Houston Ballet launches its 44th season with a mixed repertory program of premieres by emerging and established choreographers. Famed choreographer James Kudelka will create a new work for the company. British master and Houston Ballet's associate choreographer Christopher Bruce's Intimate Pages will have its Houston Ballet premiere. World premieres by Garrett Smith and Melissa Hough round out the program.

Orpheus Chamber Orchestra to Open 41st Season with Performance at Carnegie Hall, 10/9

Orpheus Chamber Orchestra opens its 41st season at Carnegie Hall with their first of four concerts tracing the evolution of the concerto over four centuries and the composer/performers who created them. Featuring the New York premiere of composer/pianist Brad Mehldau's Variations for Piano and Orchestra on a Melancholy Theme for piano and chamber orchestra, the program also includes Brahms' Liebeslieder Waltzes and Beethoven's Symphony No. 3, Eroica. The performance will take place at Stern Auditorium's Perelman Stage in Carnegie Hall on Wednesday, October 9 at 8 p.m. Tickets are available beginning September 4 at www.carnegiehall.org. Aspen Santa Fe Ballet Returns to Harris Theater for One-Night Performance, 10/5

Aspen Santa Fe Ballet, the innovative contemporary dance company from the American West led by Artistic Director Tom Mossbrucker and Executive Director Jean-Philippe Malaty, returns to the Harris Theater, 205 E. Randolph Street, for one performance only Saturday, October 5 at 7:30 pm.
