The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts celebrates the centennial of one of the most versatile, innovative and influential artists of the twentieth century, Alwin Nikolais, in the multimedia exhibition Alwin Nikolais' Total Theater of Motion. The exhibit will run from October 21, 2010 through January 15, 2011 in the Vincent Astor Gallery at the Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Center.

Carolyn Carlson, one of America's great artistic expats, makes her first U.S. appearance
in five years when she performs her solo 'Double Vision' at Montclair State University's
Alexander Kasser Theater, October 14-17. A magical use of multimedia to create a fantastical
new world of light, color and motion, the 2006 work was choreographed in collaboration with
Electronic Shadow (architect Naziha Mestaoui and media artist Yacine Aït Kaci).

As part of its pledge to foster emerging artists, Dance New Amsterdam (DNA) presents RAW Material; a juried performance series that encourages burgeoning artists to bring new work to a live audience. Mentored by Artistic Advisor Gus Solomons jr, this season's artists will experiment with innovative ways to construct dynamic frames, discover breakthrough transitions and articulate emotional connections. Fall 2010 RAW Material artists include: Randy Burd; Sumi Clements/Summation Dance; Moriah Evans and Sarah Beth Percival; Gorgas/PoMoMojo; Joanna Kotze; and Dawn Robinson. The six up and coming choreographers will present their new 10-minute works in DNA's 130-seat state-of-the-art theater, October 7 & 8, 2010 at 8:00pm.

The Centenary of Alwin Nikolais's birth is being celebrated in 10 cities world-wide with New York engagements at Nikolais's original artistic home, the Henry Street Playhouse (now the Abrons Arts Center), May 1 and 2, and at The Joyce Theater, May 4-9. The spectacular double season of revivals, some dating back to 1953, will be performed by the Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company, the repository of the Nikolais Dance Theatre repertory. The Company's performances of Nikolais's dances are directed by Alberto Del Saz and Murray Louis.
