The Alliance Theatre will stage the critically acclaimed historical drama THE WHIPPING MAN in its first production for Atlanta audiences. Set in Richmond, VA at the close of the Civil War, Matthew Lopez's suspenseful play was described by the New York Times as 'haunting, striking and powerful.' THE WHIPING MAN will run on the Hertz Stage March 8 - April 7, 2013

BroadwayWorld.com noticed something today as we scoured Facebook and it's something that we really liked, so we wanted to share it with you because it's not so often that you find such generosity for actors. This weekend, all roads lead to St. Louis as actors are headed there from all over the country to audition for the Muny's summer production of LES MISERABLES directed by Richard Jay-Alexander and with music direction by Kevin Stites.

Following its acclaimed 16-week run at the Lookingglass Theatre Company this fall, Metamorphoses brings the mythical tales of Ovid to life at Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater, 10 years after the Broadway premiere. Written and directed by Tony Award winner Mary Zimmerman, Metamorphoses is based on David Slavitt's translation and marks the first time Zimmerman will direct the production since its Broadway run. This is also the first time Zimmerman will stage Metamorphoses in the round, and a custom set will be designed with the largest pool of water ever created for this production. Metamorphoses dives onto the Fichandler Stage tonight, February 8-March 17, 2013.

Olney Theatre Center has announced Jason Loewith as its new Artistic Director. Mr. Loewith began his tenure on February 4, 2013. He comes to Olney Theatre Center from his current position as Executive Director of the National New Play Network.

The Alliance Theatre just announced the cast and creative team behind the American premiere of ZORRO, a thrilling new musical. Zorro, 'the fox,' was created in 1919 by the writer Johnston McCulley for his serialized novel 'The Curse of Capistrano,' and went on to be immortalized in print, on film, in television and even video games. Now, the legendary character will appear in a swashbuckling new musical set to the thrilling flamenco sound of The Gipsy Kings.

The Alliance National Graduate Playwriting Competition continues to spotlight the best emerging playwrights with a full production for the competition winner and staged readings for four competition finalists. BIKE AMERICA, the ninth competition winner, will premiere on the Hertz Stage today, February 1 - 24, 2013. Opening night is February 6, 2013. BIKE AMERICA is written by Mike Lew from the Juilliard Drama Division and will be directed by Mortiz von Stuelpnagel.

INTAR (Lou Moreno, Artistic Director/John McCormack, Executive Director) today announced the cast for the first of the two plays for its Winter/Spring 2013 season: Lucy Loves Me, written by Migdalia Cruz, directed by Lou Moreno, will star Annie Henk, Bertha Leal, and Gerardo Rodriguez.

Manhattan Theatre Club will present its annual Winter Benefit, an evening of cocktails and dinner followed by a special one-night-only cabaret-style show featuring Broadway's brightest stars tonight, January 28, 2013 at The Allen Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center's Fredrick P. Rose Hall (Broadway & 60th Street).

The B Street Theatre presents the West Coast Premiere of Carapace, by David Mitchell Robinson for its B3 Series. Veteran B Street company member David Pierini plays Jeff, a recovering alcoholic wanting to reconnect with his estranged adult daughter Margo after three years of silence. But Jeff's seemingly simple plan-to heal old wounds by bringing Margo a turtle on her birthday-proves more difficult and demanding than he ever imagined.

The 2013 Carbonell Nominations have been announced. The Carbonell Awards is a not-for-profit organization and is funded by tax-deductible donations and award sponsorships. Opportunities to sponsor an award category and appear on stage to announce the winner are still available.

Lookingglass Theatre Company, now celebrating its 25th Anniversary announces the addition of two new Ensemble Members: Kevin Douglas and B They are both frequent performers on the Lookingglass stage and have been members of the company as Artistic Associates.

La Jolla Playhouse announces a new play development initiative, the DNA New Work Series, entailing a six-week period of workshop productions and public readings of new plays and musicals, taking place today, January 24 through March 3, 2013. The focus of the DNA New Work Series is to allow playwrights and directors the opportunity to develop a script by providing rehearsal time, space and resources, culminating in a workshop production or public reading.

Aurora Theatre continues the 2012-2013 Harvel Lab Series sponsored by Georgia Gwinnett College with enduring classic Master Harold… and the boys written by celebrated South African playwright Athol Fugard, from February 14 through March 3, 2013.

Atlanta's nationally acclaimed ALLIANCE THEATRE stages GOOD PEOPLE - the award winning play by Pulitzer Prize winner David Lindsay-Abaire. The ALLIANCE THEATRE production will be directed by Jennings Hertz Artistic Director Susan V. Booth is currently playing on the Alliance Stage through February 10, 2013. The Alliance Theatre, in partnership with the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), presents a free reading of Dear Dr. King, an original script written by Pearl Cleage in collaboration with high school Collision Project students. Created out of the Alliance Theatre Collision Project and inspired by the classic film It's a Wonderful Life, this provocative piece uses the unique voice of teenagers to explore issues of legacy and the power that each individual life can play in effecting social change. The performances are part of the ADL's annual No Place For Hate Summit, which will take place today, January 21, 2013.
