Aurora Theatre proudly announces Justin Anderson has been appointed the new Associate Artistic Director. One of Atlanta's busiest and most successful freelance stage directors has found an artistic home and Aurora Theatre could not be happier. Mr. Anderson will join the full-time staff at Aurora Theatre beginning January 6, 2014. Over the past two years he has made a significant impact on the theatre as the director of several successful productions including Tigers Be Still, Petite Rouge, Pater Pan and Wendy and Les Miserables. Les Miserables took home 5 Suzi Bass Awards including Best Musical and Best Director of Musical for Mr. Anderson.
The Wells Fargo ArtsVibe Teen Program is excited to announce the second annual Voices & Vibes Festival, a free event on Saturday, May 10, 2014, at the Woodruff Arts Center. The festival will celebrate teens who are engaged in the Atlanta artistic community by providing them with an opportunity to perform, partake in workshops, and participate in exciting activities. The Voices & Vibes Festival is produced by the Wells Fargo ArtsVibe Teen Program, with support from a collaboration by the four divisions of the Woodruff Arts Center - The Alliance Theatre, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, High Museum of Art, and Young Audiences.
The Voices & Vibes Festival gives teens the opportunity to express themselves among their peers through all forms of art, develop their artistry with the help of local and nationally acclaimed talent, and perform in front of their family, friends, and community members. The festival encourages participants to try new forms of expression, be adventurous, and interact with other teens outside of their high school and community.
Applications are now available for the "Voices" Showcase - the culminating event of the all-day festival - to be held on Saturday, May 10, at 7:00 p.m. Teens may audition in the categories of music, dance, theatre, fashion, poetry, filmmaking, and more. Auditions will be held January 11-12, 2014, at the Woodruff Arts Center. Additional registration details are available at artsvibe.com/voices/.

Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for theatre, announces new leadership of its board of directors and three new members. Diane Rodriguez, associate producer/director of new play production at Center Theatre Group, succeeds Phillip Himberg, producing artistic director of the Sundance Institute Theatre Program, as board president. Robert Hupp, producing artistic director of Arkansas Repertory Theatre, joins playwright Lydia. R. Diamond as joint vice presidents. Tim Jennings, managing director of Children's Theatre Company, succeeds Roche Schulfer, executive director of Goodman Theatre, as treasurer. Ralph Bryan, managing director-investments of Wells Fargo Advisors, remains as secretary.
The Brand Signature Series at Aurora Theatre continues with Lombardi by Eric Simonson, based on the book When Pride Still Mattered - A Life of Vince Lombardi written by David Maraniss. The show runs January 16 through February 9, 2014. Although football's Super Bowl trophy is named for him, few know the real story of Vince Lombardi - his inspirations, his passions and his ability to drive people to achieve what they never thought possible. In the play, a diligent young reporter named Michael McCormick takes us inside the life of this legendary icon. Lombardi ran on Broadway in 2010-2011 coinciding with Green Bay's championship run which culminated with the Packers being awarded the Lombardi trophy for their victory in Super Bowl XLV.

On Saturday, December 7, TheatreWorks opened the Broadway musical 'Little Women' to an enthusiastic, sold-out crowd in Palo Alto, CA. After the performance, attendees emerged into the courtyard of the Lucie Stern Theatre to find snow - make with theatre magic! - followed by a champagne reception and meet-and-greet with the cast. A riveting new play by Pulitzer Prize nominee and creator of TV's hit drama Brothers & Sisters, Jon Robin Baitz's Other Desert Cities was named the Outstanding Play by the Outer Critics Circle and called 'the best new play on Broadway' by The New York Times. Workshops and classes in schools are the most common form of arts education programming, with nearly half of all programming targeting ages 12-18. These findings reflect the over 100 theatres that participated in the TCG Education Survey 2012 for the Special Report on Education 2012: Arts Education at the Core. Released by Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the report also compiles essays from leading theatre education directors on the impact of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) on arts education as well as CCSS resources from the past year. All five plays celebrate Latino playwrights: The Upstairs Concierge, a contemporary farce about celebrity and baseball by Pulitzer Prize finalist (for The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity) Kristoffer Diaz; and The Solid Sand Below, an examination of the intoxicating nature of war which Martin Zimmerman developed during his time as a member of the Goodman's Playwrights Unit, and which was selected for the 2013 National Playwrights Conference at The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center in Connecticut. In light of the murder of Trayvon Martin, The New Black Fest commissioned a diverse group of playwrights to write 10-minute plays reflecting on the tragedy. With these plays, The New Black Fest's wish is that serious discussion is incited in our communities around these urgent issues. The City University of New York will present Facing Our Truth: Short Plays on Trayvon, Race, and Privilege- held tomorrow, December 5, at the Graduate Center (365 Fifth Avenue) at 6:30 PM.
