Alliance Theatre's Max Leventhal Accepts New Position at Woodruff Arts Center

Max The Alliance Theatre announced today that General Manager Max Leventhal has accepted the position of Owners' Representative to the Woodruff Arts Center for multi-phased capital project planning, intended to transform the performance and public spaces in the campus's Memorial Arts Building. Leventhal, who has served at the Alliance Theatre for the past twelve seasons, brings a wealth of institutional knowledge and project management experience to this new position.

The Colony Theatre Presents BREATH AND IMAGINATION: THE STORY OF ROLAND HAYES, 9/14-10/13

The Colony Theatre is thrilled to present the West Coast Premiere of BREATH AND IMAGINATION: The Story of Roland Hayes, a true story by Daniel Beaty, directed by Saundra McClain, with Musical Direction by Rahn Coleman. BREATH AND IMAGINATION will preview on Wednesday, September 11; Thursday, September 12; and Friday, September 13 at 8:00pm and will open on Saturday, September 14 at 8:00pm and continue through Sunday, October 13.

New York Premiere of BIKE AMERICA Set for Theatre at St. Clement's, Begin. 9/24

The Obie and Drama Desk Award-winning Ma-Yi Theater Company -- one of the nation's leading theaters dedicated to developing and producing new and innovative plays by Asian American writers -- will celebrate its 25th anniversary season in 2013-14, beginning with the New York premiere of BIKE AMERICA by Mike Lew, with previews September 24 prior to an official opening night on October 1 Off-Broadway at The Theater at St. Clement's (423 W. 46 St.) in Manhattan.

Scott Schwartz Named New Artistic Director of Bay Street Theatre

Bay Street Theatre is pleased to announce that Scott Schwartz, a leading voice of the next generation of American theater, has joined Bay Street as its new Artistic Director. His tenure at Bay Street will inaugurate a new vision for the theater beginning with the 2014 season, to ensure an exciting and sustainable future for our cultural community. 2013 Steinberg Playwright 'Mimi' Awards Set for November 18

The Harold and Mimi Steinberg Charitable Trust today announced that the Sixth Annual Steinberg Playwright 'Mimi' Awards will be presented on Monday, November 18, 2013. The 'Mimi' Awards are presented biennially to honor the accomplishments of some of the most gifted up-and-coming American playwrights and to recognize the promise they hold for the future of American theater.

MTC's CHOIR BOY Enters Final Week of Performances

Manhattan Theatre Club's sold out, critically acclaimed production of Tarell Alvin McCraney's CHOIR BOY begins its final week of performances tonight at 7:30 PM. The critically acclaimed play with gospel music directed by Trip Cullman currently plays at The Studio at Stage II - Harold and Mimi Steinberg New Play Series at New York City Center - Stage II (131 West 55th Street) through Sunday, August 11. When it ends its run on that date, the production will have played 17 preview and 47 regular performances.

Lead by Tony Award nominees Gregg Edelman and Mark Jacoby, this adventure story also features Jason Danieley, Jenny Powers, Kevin Earley,Jared Michael Brown, Kendra Kassebaum, Sophia Anne Caruso, and Justin Huertas. Johnny Rabe, star of Broadway's A Christmas Story, takes center stage as Walter.

Rehearsals began this week in Atlanta, GA, for the Alliance Theatre's production of HARMONY – A NEW MUSICAL with music by Barry Manilow and book & lyrics by Bruce Sussman. HARMONY tells the true story of The Comedian Harmonists, a close harmony ensemble of six young men in 1930s Germany, who took the world by storm until their religious composition – a mixture of Jews and Gentiles – put them on a collision course with history. International pop icon Barry Manilow is currently in rehearsal with his new stage musical HARMONY, written with bookwriter/lyricist Bruce Sussman, and a backstage look at the goings-on down in Atlanta prior to the brand new musical's big premiere next month has now been granted by the talented troubadour himself via Facebook.

Alliance Theatre to Stage CHOIR BOY, 9/20-10/13

The Alliance Theatre has announced the American premiere of CHOIR BOY, a modern coming of age story by Tarell Alvin McCraney, winner of the 2008 Alliance/Kendeda National Graduate Playwriting Competition for his play In The Red and Brown Water. The American premiere of CHOIR BOY is co-produced by the Manhattan Theatre Club in New York, where CHOIR BOY opened earlier this month to outstanding reviews. The New York production has been extended twice due to popular demand and will close August 11. CHOIR BOY will run on the Hertz Stage at the Alliance Theatre September 20 - October 13, 2013. Opening night is Wednesday, September 25, 2013.

BRING IT ON Fans Unite for Motion Picture Tribute

Bring It On premiered at the Alliance Theatre, Atlanta, Georgia in January 2011. The cast included Amanda LaVergne as Campbell, Adrienne Warren as Danielle, Nick Blaemire as Randall and 'award-winning competitive cheerleaders from across the country'. In November 2011, a national tour of the musical started at the Ahmanson Theatre, Los Angeles, through December 2011.

Patricia Richardson Leads I FORGIVE YOU, RONALD REAGAN at The Beckett Theatre, Beg. Tonight

The producers of I Forgive You, Ronald Reagan, the new play by John S. Anastasi, in which the present is on a collision course with the past, present the limited Off-Broadway run this summer. Directed by Charles Abbott, performances began at The Beckett Theatre (410 West 42nd Street - between 9th & 10th Aves.) on Monday, July 15. Opening Night is set for tonight, Tuesday, July 30 at 7:00 p.m. The show is scheduled to play through August 25th.

Tony Winner Pam MacKinnon to Helm Tracy Letts' KILLER JOE on Broadway in 2014

Producers of Edward Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, the winner of the 2013 Tony Award for Best Revival, are pleased to announce that Tracy Letts' Killer Joe will be heading to Broadway for the first time. The Broadway premiere of Killer Joe will reunite Pam MacKinnon, winner of the 2013 Tony Award for Best Director of a Play (Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?) and Tracy Letts, winner of the 2013 Tony Award for Best Actor (Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?). The production is slated to hit Broadway in 2014.
