The Washington Post Award to Honor National New Play Network at 2015 Helen Hayes Awards

In partnership with The Washington Post, ?theatreWashington announced today that National New Play Network (NNPN), a nation-wide alliance of nonprofit theaters that champions the development, production and continued life of new plays, will receive The Washington Post 2015 Award for Innovative Leadership in the Theatre Community during the Helen Hayes Awards Ceremony on Monday, April 6 at the Lincoln Theatre.

On March 16, 2015, the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle announced its winners and special awards for excellence in Los Angeles, Orange, and Ventura County theater in the year 2014. Announcements were made at a ceremony held at the Beyond the Stars Palace in Glendale, hosted by Dixie Longate (Dixie's Tupperware Party) with musical direction by Corey B. Hirsch (LADCC award winner for A Man of No Importance in 2014).

Atlanta's nationally acclaimed Alliance Theatre will present JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH, based on the beloved book by Roald Dahl, tonight, March 14-29, 2015, as part of its Alliance Family Series. Rosemary Newcott, the Sally G. Tomlinson Artistic Director of Theatre for Youth and Families, directs this surreal, one-act family friendly musical.

Milwaukee Repertory Theater presents the World Premiere production of Five Presidents. Broadway and television veterans Mark Jacoby, Martin L'Herault, Steve Sheridan, Jeff Steitzer, and Brit Whittle, along with Rep Associate Artist Reese Madigan, make up the cast of Five Presidents from Emmy Award-winning writer Rick Cleveland (The West Wing, House of Cards, Mad Men, and Six Feet Under). Directed by Milwaukee Rep Artistic Director Mark Clements, the production opens tonight, March 13, 2015 and runs through April 5, 2015.

Written by beloved Atlanta author and playwright, Pearl Cleage (What I Learned in Paris, The Nacirema Society…) and directed by Alliance Theatre Jennings Hertz Artistic Director Susan V. Booth, Blues for an Alabama Sky is a timeless look at hopeful dreams in the hopeless days of the waning Harlem Renaissance. Opening night is Wednesday, April 22, 2015.
