Mark Lamos directs an impressive kickoff at Westport Country Playhouse with a 25th-anniversary production of Stephen Sondhheim's funny and thought-provoking musical INTO THE WOODS.

A 25th anniversary production of the imaginative, fractured-fairy tale musical "Into the Woods" by James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim will be staged at the theater where Sondheim was an apprentice in 1950, Westport Country Playhouse, in Westport, CT, May 1 through May 26. Directed by Mark Lamos, the Playhouse's artistic director, the musical will open the historic theater's 82nd season. It is co-produced with Baltimore's CENTERSTAGE.

Pittsburgh Public Theater is presents the Pittsburgh premiere of Freud's Last Session, Mark St. Germain's new play about an imagined meeting between outspoken atheist Sigmund Freud (David Wohl) and Christian writer C.S. Lewis (Jonathan Crombie). Freud's Last Session won the 2011 Off-Broadway Alliance Award for Best Play.

THE LYONS debuted last fall at the Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning Vineyard Theatre and now begins previews on April 5, with an official opening night set for April 23. THE LYONS comes to Broadway with its entire original cast: Linda Lavin and Dick Latessa along with Michael Esper, Kate Jennings Grant, Brenda Pressley and Gregory Wooddell. The box office for the Cort Theatre (138 W. 48 St.) -- where Nicky Silver's comedy THE LYONS begins its Broadway run with a cast starring Tony winners Linda Lavin and Dick Latessa -- opens for window sales on Thursday, March 22 starting at 10 a.m.

According to a report on nypost.com, the musical GIANT, which played last month at the Dallas Theater Center, will be heading to the Public Theater in Fall and has potential to transfer to Broadway.

The Independent Reviewers of New England (IRNE) Awards recognize the extraordinary wealth of talent in the Boston theatre community, and this year's nominations have just been announced. IRNE Reviewers include among others David Brooks Andrews, Sheila Barth, Jules Becker, Kay Bourne, Beverly Creasey, Shirley Esthimer, Richard Fahey, Guy Giampapa, Norm Gross, Nancy Grossman, Bryce Lambert, Beatrice Lee, Kilian Melloy and Larry Stark.

LYSISTRATA JONES, which caught on with many critics but not with audiences, will give its final performance on Sunday, January 8, 2012 at 3:00pm at the Walter Kerr Theatre (219 West 48th street). Upon closing, the musical will have played 34 previews and 30 performances. Written by Tony nominee Douglas Carter Beane (book) and Lewis Flinn (music/lyrics), LYSISTRATA JONES is directed and choreographed by Tony nominee Dan Knechtges.
