NYTW Presents 3 Staged Readings Of JEWISH CHILDREN 3/25-27

New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW) Artistic Director James C. Nicola and Managing Director William Russo have announced that they will present three staged readings of Caryl Churchill's short play Seven Jewish Children, Wednesday, March 25 through Friday, March 27 at 7pm, at NYTW, 79 East 4th Street, between Second Avenue and Bowery. Each reading will be followed by a moderated discussion, with several notable authorities (from both the Israeli/Jewish and Palestinian communities) attending each performance to illuminate the dialogue. After the discussion, there will be a second reading of the ten-minute play.

Join the members of the Martin E. Segal Theatre for a two-day celebration of The Living Theatre, including screenings of work, documentaries, panel discussions, staged readings, and more. Invited participants include: Thomas Walker, Alisa Solomon, Carlo Altomare, Kenneth Brown, Joan MacIntosh, Cyndy Rosenthal, Marvin Carlson, and David Savran. The event will cuminate in the presentation of the Edwin Booth Award by the Doctoral Theatre Students Association to Judith Malina.

American Theater's Randy Gener Awarded Nathan Award

The heads of the English departments of Cornell, Princeton, and Yale Universities have chosen Randy Gener, Senior Editor of American Theatre magazine, to receive the annual George Jean Nathan Award for Dramatic Criticism. The honor is reserved for 'the American who has written the best piece of drama criticism during the theatrical year (July 1 to June 30), whether it is an article, an essay, treatise or book.'

Guthrie to Present Tony Kushner Festival

Director Joe Dowling today announced that the Guthrie Theater will celebrate the work of Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tony Kushner in a landmark series set for the spring of 2009. In addition to presenting the previously announced Guthrie commission, tentatively titled The Intelligent Homosexual's Guide to Capitalism and Socialism with a Key to the Scriptures, Dowling also announced plans for productions of Caroline, or Change on the Wurtele Thrust Stage and a collection of Kushner's short plays in the Dowling Studio as part of the upcoming 2008-09 Season. These three simultaneous productions will join a series of speakers, scholars and other special events designed to fully examine and celebrate Kushner's body of work.

'Year One of the Empire' Presents Talkback Series

Guthrie Director Joe Dowling announced that Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tony Kushner has been commissioned by the Guthrie to write a new play. Tentatively titled The Intelligent Homosexual's Guide to Capitalism and Socialism with a Key to the Scriptures, Kushner's Guthrie commission will premiere on the McGuire Proscenium Stage in the spring of 2009, as part of the Guthrie's 2008-2009 season.
