Opera Naples Summer Opera Film Series to Feature FALSTAFF With Ambrogio Maestri in September

Opera Naples, one of Naples' leading performing arts organizations, will be featuring 'Falstaff' (Staatsoper Hamburg) with Ambrogio Maestri during its summer film series of classic European operas, HD at Opera Naples. Screening will take place at 3 p.m. on Sept. 7, shown on the Wang Opera Center's expansive high-definition LED theater screen.

Verdi's Falstaff is another glittering gem in the train of Union Avenue Opera. I'm not a big fan of 're-purposing' classic plays. Poor Shakespeare! He's been subjected to such vandalism over the years with modern 'concept' versions of his works. No, I do not want to go to see a trendy lesbian-Hamlet-on-Mars!

New Faculty Announced for Banff Centre Opera Program

Banff Centre will build upon its work in recent years changing conversations about opera. In 2020-21, Joel Ivany, director of opera at Banff Centre since 2014, will be joined this season by two co-directors: Métis and French-Canadian composer, Ian Cusson, and American soprano, Karen Slack, and celebrating Indigenous and Black composers and librettists.
