Carnegie Hall's 120th Anniversary Concert Featured on PBS, 5/31

On May 5, 2011, Carnegie Hall will commemorate its 120th anniversary with an all-star gala concert featuring conductor Alan Gilbert and the New York Philharmonic and special guests pianist Emanuel Ax, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, violinist Gil Shaham, and the four-time Tony Award-winning singer and actress Audra McDonald.

Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival to Feature the NY Philharmonic, 7/22-29

The New York Philharmonic will return to Colorado's Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival for its ninth annual summer residency, for six concerts, July 22-29, 2011. Music Director Alan Gilbert, The Yoko Nagae Ceschina Chair, will conduct three concerts, leading works by Dvo?ák, Beethoven, Mozart, Mahler, Rachmaninoff, and Tchaikovsky. The Orchestra's residency will also feature appearances by conductors Ludovic Morlot and Bramwell Tovey, as well as violinists Gil Shaham, Veronika Eberle (New York Philharmonic debut) and Augustin Hadelich, and pianists Alexander Romanovsky (debut), Kirill Gerstein, and Jean-Efflam Bavouzet (debut). The New York Philharmonic has performed at the Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival each summer since 2003.

NY Philharmonic's Leipzig Performance to Be Streamed Live, 5/23

New York Philharmonic Music Director Alan Gilbert, The Yoko Nagae Ceschina Chair, will lead the Orchestra in an all-Mahler concert from the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, Germany, which will be streamed live on nyphil.org/leipzig, May 23, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. EDT (8:00 p.m. in Germany). The concert, which takes place during the final week of the Philharmonic's nine-city EUROPE / SPRING 2011 tour, will also be streamed live on the Websites of Arte Live Web (liveweb.arte.tv/de), the Gewandhaus (gewandhaus.de), and MDR (mdr.de/mahler). On nyphil.org/leipzig, liveweb.arte.tv/de, and mdr.de/mahler, the concert will later be available for on-demand streaming for seven days. The Philharmonic's performance in Leipzig is part of the International Mahler Festival 2011, and will feature Mahler's Kindertotenlieder, with baritone Thomas Hampson, and Symphony No. 5.

Alan Gilbert Leads NY Philharmonic's Memorial Day Concert

Music Director Alan Gilbert, The Yoko Nagae Ceschina Chair, will lead the New York Philharmonic in Barber's Adagio for Strings and Beethoven's Symphony No. 3, Eroica, at the 20th Annual Free Memorial Day Concert, presented by the Anna-Maria and Stephen Kellen Foundation, Monday, May 30, 2011, at 8:00 p.m. Seating is on a firstcome, first-served basis. The audio of the performance will be broadcast onto the adjacent Pulpit Green, weather permitting.

Twenty-six-year-old American mezzo-soprano Jennifer Johnson Cano, winner of the 2009 Young Concert Artists International Auditions and a fast-rising star at the Metropolitan Opera, makes her New York recital debut, sponsored by the Peter Marino Debut Prize, in the Young Concert Artists Series on Monday, May 2, 2011, at Merkin Concert Hall, accompanied by pianist Christopher Cano.

Emanuel Ax to Perform with NY Philharmonic, 428

Music Director Alan Gilbert, The Yoko Nagae Ceschina Chair, will conduct the New York Philharmonic in Messiaen's Couleurs de la cité céleste and Mahler's Symphony No. 5, Thursday, April 28, 2011, at 7:30 p.m., Friday, April 29, at 2:00 p.m., and Saturday, April 30, at 8:00 p.m. He will be joined in these concerts by pianist Emanuel Ax, who is performing his 100th concert with the New York Philharmonic on April 28, and who will play Debussy's Estampes for solo piano, and the Messiaen work with the Orchestra.
