SYLVIA Plays the Wells Fargo Center for the Arts, Now thru 10/19

North Bay Stage Company is going to the dogs; at least for its October production. A resident theater company of Wells Fargo Center for the Arts, it presents Sylvia, a lively, humorous look at how man's best friend can impact the lives of others. The show will run 8 p.m. Fridays, today, October 3 and October 10, 17 and Saturdays October 4, 11, 18 and at 2 p.m. on Sundays October 12 and 19, 2014. Performances will be held in the East Auditorium stage which is located at Wells Fargo Center for the Arts, 50 Mark West Springs Road, Santa Rosa, CA 95403.

FringeNYC Winner ABSOLUTELY FILTHY Joins Encore Series, Now thru 10/5 at SoHo Playhouse

Absolutely Filthy, the winner of 3 FringeNYC Overall Excellence Awards (Overall Play, Actor and Audience Favorite) will join the 10th Annual FringeNYC Encore Series. This unauthorized parody of the classic cartoon Peanuts which envisions what the beloved characters might be like in their 30's will run today, October 1-5 at SoHo Playhouse.

Portraits from Snowdon Archive to Be Displayed at National Portrait Gallery, 9/26

An important display of portraits by Snowdon from the 1950s to the 1990s has opened at the National Portrait Gallery, London, it was announced today, Friday 26 September, 2014. The display includes portraits from his recently announced gift, one of the largest in its history, of 130 original prints to the gallery, of some of his most iconic photographs. Highlights include from 1978 actor Terence Stamp dramatically clothed up to his neck in a cape and Dame Maggie Smith photographed with a cigarette and script in hand rehearsing the title role in Ibsen's Hedda Gabler for Ingmar Bergman in 1970.

The Yardley Players Bring MOUSETRAP to MCCC's Kelsey Theatre, Now thru 10/5

The setting is an idyllic English manor house newly opened by an eager young couple, Molly and Giles Ralston. But the scene is about to sour, as word of a murder is announced on the radio and a worsening snowstorm strands the manor's odd assortment of guests. The Yardley Players presents Agatha Christie's most enduring classic, 'The Mousetrap,' at Mercer County Community College's Kelsey Theatre for two thrilling weekends: Todays, Sept. 26 and Oct. 3 at 8 p.m.; Saturdays, Sept. 27 and Oct. 4; and Sundays, Sept. 28 and Oct. 5 at 2 p.m.

VILLA THRILLA Opens 10/18 at Atwater Village Theatre

Austin Powers meets The Sopranos by way of Agatha Christie. Ring in the holidays with a hilarious seasonal twist on the classic English murder mystery when Gary Lee Reed directs Villa Thrilla by Anna Nicholas, opening Oct. 18 at Atwater Village Theatre.

Following the critically acclaimed hit premiere stage production of Peter James' The Perfect Murder - which recently opened its autumn tour at the Canterbury Marlowe to further rave reviews - the best-selling work of the No.1 novelist will return to the stage in 2015 with the adaptation of his most famous and popular book to date Dead Simple. A host of famous faces including Tina Hobley, Jamie Lomas and Gray O' Brien are to bring the next claustrophobically thrilling instalment of Peter James' work to life on stage when the tour opens in Dartford in January.

BWW Reviews: BLACK COFFEE by Agatha Christie Plods Along at a Snail's Pace Through a Murder's Twists and Turns

BLACK COFFEE is a little known, slow-paced mystery by Agatha Christie which her fans will enjoy. Written in 1934, the story takes place in the library of the home of Sir Claud Amory, a physicist who has just come up with a formula for the atomic bomb. When Sir Claude is poisoned, in his coffee of course, Detective Hercule Poirot is called to solve the mystery. He does so after many wonderful twists and turns in true Christie fashion.
