The shorthand response for why the original production of It's a Bird… It's a Plane… It's Superman only managed to eke out a three and a half month run on Broadway has traditionally been that the show opened during a newspaper strike.

A human ball of silver glitter hanging from a cord is lowered above what looks like a bungalow-sized muffin top.  (It's supposed to represent a turtle shell.)  Before the glitter ball makes its landing the cover is removed to reveal what looks like a tribe of humanish amphibians bouncing on trampolines and twirling on the muffin/turtle's frame.  Shortly after, a sleazy-looking clown in a tropical shirt tosses a condom to a woman in the front row and says, 'Call me!'  Yes, dear readers, Cirque du Soleil is back in town.

Superman will return to the stage in the upcoming New York City Center Encores! production of It's a Bird...It's a Plane...It's Superman. The production will feature Edward Watts in the title role with Jenny Powers as Lois Lane and David Pittu as the evil Dr. Sedgwick, along with Adam Monley, Alli Mauzey, James Saito and Will Swenson. These are some of the most haunting lyrics in Stephen Sondheim's ASSASSINS, now in production in the Quadracci Powerhouse at the Milwaukee Repertory Theater. These lyrics are sung by John Hinckley, Jr. with Lynette 'Squeaky' Fromme in their duet of "Unworthy of Your Love".

Assassins will be directed at The Milwaukee Rep by Artistic Director Mark Clements. This will be the third musical he has directed since he began his tenure at The Rep following last season's hit Next to Normal and Cabaret from his first season. With the selection of Assassins for the 2012/13 Season, Milwaukee Repertory Theater shows its commitment to continuing to produce full-scale musicals as part of its repertoire. Clements has assembled a top-notch cast for this production featuring many performers with extensive Broadway credits. Assassins runs in the Quadracci Powerhouse from tonight, September 4 - October 7, and opens on Friday, September 7.

The new musical Foreverman, with book, music, and lyrics by Brett M. Boles, will be presented as an official selection of the New York Musical Theatre Festival's (NYMF's) 2012 Next Link Project, beginning performances tonight, July 20 and running through Sunday, July 28, at the PTC Performance Space, 555 West 42 Street (between Tenth and Eleventh Avenues).

On July 3rd, New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) presented a special preview of the 2012 featuring musical selections from: Rio, Stand Tall, Himself & Nora, Trouble, Stealing Time, Arnie the Doughnut, Foreverman, A Letter to Harvey Milk, and The Groove Factory. The event, hosted by GODSPELL's Corbin Bleu, featured Isaac Robert Hurwitz, Leslie Kritzer, Matt Bogart, Natalie Toro, Jeremy Kushnier, Tom Deckman, Adam Monley, Danny Quadrino, Jennifer Wren, J.
