After six consecutive years, Disney's Beauty and the Beast has relinquished its place as the top musical in the annual survey of most-produced titles in United States high school theatres, unseated during the 2013-14 season by another adaptation of an animated anti-hero: Shrek the Musical. Final preparations are under way in Royal Oak's Starr Jaycee Park for the 14th annual outdoor summer theatre festival, Shakespeare Royal Oak. The festival begins July 28 and continues through Sunday, August 10. The idea behind this show - which is pretty much a guaranteed hit wherever it has been produced - is to condense many of Shakespeare's masterworks into a two hour orgy of down to earth humor and outright fun. Opening with ROMEO AND JULIET and closing with HAMLET the trio led us on a merry chase through the classics, poking fun as they go.
