Noted author and scholar Lorene Cary, whose first novel, The Price of a Child, was selected in 2003 as the inaugural One Book, One Philadelphia, has received rave reviews for the world premiere of her play, MY GENERAL TUBMAN, at Philadelphia's Arden Theatre Company. Due to popular demand, the work will now run at the Arden's Arcadia Stage through March 15, 2020. This is the second extension of the production.

The work, directed by award-winning theatre artist James Ijames, will run at the Arden's Arcadia Stage from January 16 to March 1, 2020. Reviewing press are invited to the 7PM performance on January 22, or any performance afterwards.

For Simpatico Theatre in Philadelphia, their 15th season No Place/Like Home looks at how and where we live, especially in the face of gun violence. The season asks the question: what happens when we find ourselves a stranger in our own home or neighborhood? All productions will take place at The Louis Bluver Theatre at The Drake, Philadelphia.

Jazzmobile Inc. and Harlem Jazz Enterprises have entered into a new partnership to present live music at the iconic Minton's Playhouse jazz club, 206 West 118th Street, in Harlem. This open-ended residency will begin on Independence Day with pianist Nat Adderley, Jr. and will continue every Thursday evening with a world-class jazz band. The Summer lineup will be announced at the opening celebration on July 4.

11th Hour Theatre Company is welcoming audiences into the development process of its next musical comission. The company is presenting a concert performance of the commissioned brand-new Civil War musical, Something Like A War with Music and Lyrics by Jake Blouch and a Book by Jesse Bernstein. The concert is directed by Jerrell L. Henderson and Dan Kazemi is the Music Director. The concert will be May 17-19 at The Louis Bluver Theatre at the Drake, 341 South Hicks Street. City Theater Company presents the 2nd Annual Tax Free Comedy Festival, the First State's annual showcase featuring the best and funniest from Delaware and beyond performing stand-up, musical, and improv comedy completely...TAX FREE! For two nights, audiences and participants will enjoy comedy-stand-up, improv, and musical acts-by night, and a workshop led by top professionals in the field by day.

Walnut Street Theatre opens its landmark 210th season with the lush romantic comedy Irving Berlin's HOLIDAY INN, featuring a score by "America's Songwriter."  Based on the classic film by the same name, the production will be directed by Charles Abbott and choreographed by Michelle Gaudette. Irving Berlin's Holiday Inn begins previews on September 4th, opens on September 12th, and runs through October 21st on the Walnut's Mainstage.

After producing six world premiere plays by Philadelphia playwrights, Orbiter 3 is presenting their seventh and final production this May: A People by L M Feldman. In just three years Orbiter 3 has brought new work by local playwrights to the stage (six of the seven plays directed by women) and leaves a legacy of creating sustainable and radical theatre.

This week – Friday, April 6th, 2018 Harbinger Records is releasing CY COLEMAN A Jazzman's Broadway (Jamaica, Flower Drum Song, South Pacific) HCD 3401. Harbinger loves composer/jazz pianist Cy Coleman. In fact, they have undertaken an entire series of CDs devoted to his vast musical talents. The first Coleman CD was a companion to the first biography on Cy, You Fascinate Me So (an overview of rare songs by Coleman with as disparate a bunch of lyricists as Carolyn Leigh, Dorothy Fields, Floyd Huddleston, A.E. Hotchner, and even comic Allan Sherman). The CD got rave reviews and opened many musical theatre aficionados to the depth of his composing skills.

The Media Theatre has the legendary musical "West Side Story" April 19 through June 11. With a book by Arthur Laurents and a sweeping score from Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim, the musical is often referred to as one of the all-time greats in the Broadway canon. 

PlayPenn, the Philadelphia-based organization dedicated to the development and nurturing of new plays and playwrights, is partnering with Repertory Theatre of St. Louis and Contemporary American Theatre Festival to present workshops of two new works by acclaimed writers Mickey Fisher (creator of CBS's EXTANT with Halle Berry) and Kara Lee Corthron.

11th Hour Theatre Company kicks off its 12th season with its Next Step Concert Series and a performance of the hilarious musical Urinetown. With Music and Lyrics by Mark Hollmann and Book and Lyrics by Greg Kotis, this concert reading of this popular musical will run October 21-23 at The Arden's Studio Theatre at the Hamilton Family Arts Center. 62 N. For those who didn't have the opportunity to meet the cast and crew of East Lynne Theater Company's 'Rodgers' Romance' at the after-show party at The Washington Inn on June 15, another chance is to be had on Friday, June 24 at an after-show Q&A. It's a wonderful opportunity for patrons to ask actors and directors such questions as 'why do they do what they do?' and 'how do they do it?'
