ACT to Feature Pinter Festival & Represent! Multicultural Playwrights Festival this Summer!

ACT - A Contemporary Theatre's Mainstage switches from the farcical marriage comedy of Lewis Black's One Slight Hitch to the dark and haunting humor of Harold Pinter. The Hansberry Project also brings to the stage Seattle's second Multicultural Playwrights Festival. The Seagull Project presents their first in a series of Russian readings with The Great Soul of Russia, and in The Construction Zone, ACT will feature Steven Dietz and his new play, A Year Without Summer.

As always, summers in the Seattle area are a crapshoot. Will we or won't we have nice weather? If the weather lately is any indication I think we're in for some lovely days and plenty of chances to play outside. But whether the weather forces us outdoors or indoors there's always plenty of theater going on around town to take in. Here are our top 5 picks for summer theater goings on around town this year.

Daniel Berryman, Aaron C. Finley, Naomi Morgan & More to Star in 5th Avenue Theatre's RENT, 7/21-8/19

It's a brand new season of love this summer when The 5th Avenue Theatre brings a bold and innovative production of RENT to the stage. Fresh from his smash success with First Date, Bill Berry directs this electrifying new staging of Jonathan Larson's modern rock-opera classic. A cast of Seattle's young rising theater stars, featuring Daniel Berryman, Aaron C. Finley, Naomi Morgan, Jerick Hoffer, Ryah Nixon, and Andi Alhadeff will take center stage, belting hits including "La Vie Boheme," "Take Me or Leave Me," "One Song Glory," and "Rent." Based on the Puccini opera La boheme, the hit musical premiered in 1996 to instant acclaim, and swept a host of theater awards - the Tony, the Obie, and the Pulitzer.

Lewis Black's ONE SLIGHT HITCH Makes West Coast Debut at ACT, 6/14

Comedian and commentator Lewis Black shows off his playwriting prowess with ACT - A Contemporary Theatre's production of the wedding day comedy One Slight Hitch. The play is the West Coast debut of a new work by Black, who is not only a Comedy Central regular and a contributor to the award winning The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, but also a stand-up performer and studied playwright. The play begins previews June 8 and opens June 14, running until July 8.

Azeotrope Presents JESUS HOPPED THE A TRAIN, 6/15-30

After an impressive debut with their production of Red Light Winter in 2010, Seattle theatre company Azeotrope is proud to announce a second production with the Northwest premiere of Jesus Hopped the A Train by Stephen Adly Guirgis, directed by Artistic Associate Desdemona Chiang. Jesus Hopped the A Train opens Friday, June 15, 2012 through June 30, 2012 and is produced in association with Central Heating Lab at A Contemporary Theatre.

ACT - A Contemporary Theatre's Mainstage brings Lewis Black's comedy to the stage just in time for wedding season.

CELEBRATE, ESE! Marks eSe Teatro's 2-Year Anniversary Today, 5/5

Celebrate, eSe! combines theatre and celebration in honor of eSe Teatro's 2-year anniversary. Performances will include a theatrical Mission Statement interpretation, sneak-peek readings of 2012 Season productions including the Glickman Award-winning play Oedipus el Rey by Luis Alfaro (December 2012) and works-in-progress by eSe members, as well as a rare zapateo performance by master dancer and choreographer Lucho Sandoval (Peru).

Seth Godin to Speak at TCG National Conference in Boston

Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for theatre, announces that digital-marketing pioneer and best-selling author Seth Godin will speak at the 22nd annual TCG National Conference in Boston from June 21 to 23, 2012. This multiday convening will bring 1,000 theater practitioners together from around the world to conclude TCG's year-long 50th anniversary celebration.

Frank Ferrante's Premiere of AN EVENING WITH GROUCHO Comes to ACT, Now thru 5/20

Frank Ferrante, the award winning and internationally known comedic actor, stages his virtuoso tribute to Groucho Marx at ACT - A Contemporary Theatre, in An Evening With Groucho. Mr. Ferrante is the winner of the 1987 New York Theatre World Award, nominated for the Outer Critics Circle Award and Laurence Olivier Award, and well-known for his comic creation 'Caesar' with Teatro ZinZanni.

2012 Icicle Creek Theatre Festival Announces Plays

Art and class collide, as a group of Northern English miners unexpectedly ascend to the top of the art world in The Pitmen Painters at ACT - A Contemporary Theatre. Penned by playwright Lee Hall, author of the celebrated Billy Elliot, this critically acclaimed play from London and Broadway receives its regional premiere in ACT's dynamic in-the-round Allen Theatre directed by ACT's Artistic Director Kurt Beattie tonight April 26, and the show is scheduled to run until May 20.

THE PINTER FESTIVAL at ACT Theatre Announces Casting

Seattle's ACT - A Contemporary Theatre announces that the casting and directors for the summer of 2012 Pinter Festival have been finalized. Performances begin in July when eleven actors perform a double-bill of The Dumb Waiter and Celebration, then adding Old Times and No Man's Land to the schedule in August. Distinguished British director Penny Cherns will direct No Man's Land and nationally renowned actors Peter Crook and Frank Corrado appear in multiple productions alongside such Seattle favorites as Anne Allgood, Julie Briskman, Darragh Kennan, Charles Leggett, and more.
