Vietnamese refugee, former gang member, and now rising Hollywood actor Trieu Tran comes to Seattle to tell a compelling coming of age story in his fearless one man show Uncle Ho to Uncle Sam. ACT - A Contemporary Theatre is proud to stage the world premiere of Tran's bold autobiographical solo performance directed by Robert Egan. Egan also assisted in creating the script. Strawshop's ACCIDENTAL DEATH OF AN ANARCHIST Nominated for 3 2012 Gregory Awards

Strawberry Theatre Workshop has been nominated for three 2012 Theatre Puget Sound Gregory Awards: Outstanding Supporting Actor for Jason Harber's performance in Accidental Death of an Anarchist, Outstanding Director for Gabriel Baron's direction of Anarchist, and Outstanding Production for Anarchist.

MetLife and TCG Announce Latest 2012 Aha! Program Recipients

MetLife Foundation and Theatre Communications Group (TCG) announce the fifth round of recipients for the MetLife/TCG A-ha! Program: Think It, Do It, which supports the creative thinking and action of TCG Member Theatres with the goal of impacting the larger theatre community. Five theatres were awarded grants totaling $225,000 to either research and develop new ideas or experiment and implement innovative concepts.

Lower Depth Theatre Ensemble Presents ELMINA'S KITCHEN, Now thru 9/9

The Lower Depth Theatre Ensemble presents the West Coast premiere of ELMINA'S KITCHEN, written by award-winning playwright Kwame Kwei-Armah, directed by Gregg T. Daniel. This gut-wrenching drama is set in the notorious "Murder Mile" section of London's East End. ELMINA'S KITCHEN examines the bitter clash of values between three generations of black men and its effect on their family and community. The play runs tonight, August 11 through September 9. Fridays & Saturdays at 8pm, Sundays at 4pm. The Lost Studio, 130 S. La Brea, Los Angeles, Calif.

Theatre Puget Sound Announces 4th Annual Gregory Awards at ACT, 10/29

Theatre Puget Sound (TPS) has announced the 4th Annual Gregory Awards, to be held at A Contemporary Theatre (ACT) on Monday, October 29, 2012 at 7:30pm. This highly anticipated awards ceremony acknowledging achievement in the theatre arts is a who's who of the Seattle theatre scene and, as in years past, it occurs during the month-long October Arts Crush Festival. The new Melissa Hines Award, the coveted Gregory A. Falls Sustained Achievement Award and awards in 12 additional categories (supporting actor and supporting actress are new in 2012) are all presented at this ceremony.

THE DUMB WAITER, CELEBRATION et al. Set for ACT's Pinter Festival, Now thru 8/26

ACT - A Contemporary Theatre presents a full-scale theatrical celebration of the works of modern master and Nobel Prize Laureate Harold Pinter. Famous for his biting humor and a favorite of professionals, scholars, and people who like their humor on the darker side, ACT looks to introduce the city of Seattle to many of Pinter's lesser known and rarely produced works in its Pinter Festival, running today, July 20 - August 26, 2012.

Alan Ayckbourn Set to Direct SUGAR DADDIES at ACT This Fall

ACT - A Contemporary Theatre is pleased to announce the American premiere of lauded playwright Alan Ayckbourn's Sugar Daddies, directed by Ayckbourn himself, as one of the six mainstage selections in the 2013 Season. ACT Artistic Director Kurt Beattie invited Ayckbourn to direct during a meeting in 2011 in England. The opportunity to collaborate in person is the result of ACT's commitment to and success with Ayckbourn's work, which has engendered a lasting artistic relationship. Sugar Daddies is slated to be produced in September and October, 2013. The play will be staged in ACT's Allen Theatre, as productions in-the-round are Ayckbourn's specialty.

Azeotrope Presents JESUS HOPPED THE A TRAIN, Now thru 6/30

After an impressive debut with their production of Red Light Winter in 2010, Seattle theatre company Azeotrope is proud to announce a second production with the Northwest premiere of Jesus Hopped the A Train by Stephen Adly Guirgis, directed by Artistic Associate Desdemona Chiang. Jesus Hopped the A Train opens tonight, June 15, 2012 through June 30, 2012 and is produced in association with Central Heating Lab at A Contemporary Theatre.

Lewis Black's ONE SLIGHT HITCH Makes West Coast Debut at ACT Tonight, 6/14

Comedian and commentator Lewis Black shows off his playwriting prowess with ACT - A Contemporary Theatre's production of the wedding day comedy One Slight Hitch. The play is the West Coast debut of a new work by Black, who is not only a Comedy Central regular and a contributor to the award winning The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, but also a stand-up performer and studied playwright. The play began previews June 8 and opens tonight, June 14, running until July 8.

ONE SLIGHT HITCH, Pinter Festival, Russian Readings and More Set for Summer 2012 at ACT

A Contemporary Theatre's Mainstage switches from the farcical marriage comedy of Lewis Black's One Slight Hitch to the dark and haunting humor of Harold Pinter. The Hansberry Project also brings to the stage Seattle's second Multicultural Playwrights Festival. The Seagull Project presents their first in a series of Russian readings with The Great Soul of Russia, and in The Construction Zone, ACT will feature Steven Dietz and his new play, A Year Without Summer.
