Kelli and Kelly Books for Kids Launch I AM NOT SELLING MY TOOTH!
by Christina Mancuso
- Feb 16, 2015
'Why can't I just be small Austin and have small clothes, small teeth and live with my mom and dad forever?' -'I Am Not Selling My Tooth!'
Mom Entrepreneurs, Kelli Nielsen and Kelly Hawkins of Kelli and Kelly Books for Kids, will be on hand to celebrate Children's Dental Health Month with two Children's Museums in the Seattle area Fri. Feb. 20 with readings and signings of their newest book, 'I Am Not Selling My Tooth!' They will be at the Children's Museum of Skagit County in Burlington, Wash. from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. and Imagine Children's Museum in Everett, Wash. 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Cate Anderson, Executive Director of the Children's Museum of Skagit County (CMSC), said the museum is 'excited' to host Kelli and Kelly because 'not only does the book tie in perfectly with our theme, but it really speaks to how many children feel about letting go of their teeth...and their childhood.'
The museum will also offer free dental screenings from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. and a 'Dental Office' exhibit featuring a real dental chair, and review x-rays that Anderson hopes will 'make future visits to the dentists more successful' as children's comfort level increases.
'I Am Not Selling My Tooth!' has garnered unanimous stellar reviews. San Diego Children's Librarian Leslie Bolinger called it 'playful and highly original.' The Midwest Book Review noted that the story supports 'a child's need to have some self-leadership in coping with life changes.'
Nielsen and Hawkins were inspired by their own children's resistance to 'selling' their teeth to a tooth fairy. 'They all still have bags of their baby teeth.' Nielsen said. She dedicated her book to her 'wonderful' son Austin: 'Thank you for giving me the words.'
Hawkins credits her two daughters with giving her 'inspiration every day.' In addition to book launch appearances, she will be conducting art workshops at the Young Authors Conference at Skagit Valley College March 23 through 27.
Kelli and Kelly will be guests on Seattle's New Day Northwest (11 a.m. KING Channel 5 and 2 p.m. KONG) to talk about 'I Am Not Selling My Tooth!'
Their March reading/signings will include a return engagement at the Children's Museum of Skagit County March 7 (11 a.m.), and the Everett artistan co-op gallery, SugarShak by the Sea, March 22 (5 p.m.).
Kelli and Kelly are Skagit County natives and longtime friends whose 'You Will Always Be My Son' sold over 1000 copies. Niesen said, 'We are two moms with an inspiring dream to bring quality children's books to market.

What would happen if, at the end of Shakespeare's play, Romeo and Juliet woke up to discover they were stuck in their own Personal Hell, listening to Tony from West Side Story sing 'Maria' for eternity? And in order to escape, they'd need to suffer through a production of their life story performed by the other inhabitants of Hell - Shakespeare's dead characters.
