The Boch Center is now showing 'Women Who Rock', a digital exhibit celebrating female musicians during Women's History Month.

Singer, songwriter, and social activist Holly Near has been performing for well over 50 years and in the process created what Gloria Steinem called, 'the first soundtrack of the women's movement.' In 1967, the career of Arlo Guthrie, eldest son of America's beloved singer/writer/philosopher Woody Guthrie, exploded with the release of Alice's Restaurant, whose title track helped foster a generation's commitment to social consciousness and activism.

The Chan Centre for the Performing Arts at the University of British Columbia (UBC) presents prolific singer-songwriter and American folk star Arlo Guthrie on April 21 at 8pm in the Chan Shun Concert Hall.  The beloved icon & social commentator will delight audiences with fan favourites, and a performance of the complete 18-minute Alice's Restaurant Massacree, a song he only revisits every ten years due to its length. The evening will open with special guest, Sarah Lee Guthrie, Arlo's daughter who continues the Guthrie musical lineage with her signature pop-fused folk-rock sound.

The York Theatre Company (James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director; Andrew Levine, Executive Director), in association with Jim Kierstead, as part of its acclaimed Developmental Reading Series, continues its summer schedule with the new musical Unexpected Joy, with Book & Lyrics by Bill Russell and Music by Janet Hood. Directed by Tony Award nominee Sheryl Kaller and with music direction by Jodie Moore, the four-member cast will feature Annie Golden, Emma Hunton, Capathia Jenkins and AnnMarie Milazzo.

Arlo Guthrie will play the Colonial on November 16 at 8pm to honor his father, Woody Guthrie, and all that he contributed to Folk Music. For this concert only, Arlo will be accompanied by his family, to celebrate Woody Guthrie's life and music.

"The Temperamentals" opens tonight, August 29, 2012, with a limited run through September 16 in the Studio Theatre of the Horowitz Visual and Performing Arts Center (HVPA) on the campus of HCC.
