Amy Gijsbers van Wijk (they/them) is a queer, first-generation American playwright from Pasadena, Texas, now based in Brooklyn, NY. They write plays about sex, shame, the femme gaze, and technology. They have been a Susan Smith Blackburn Prize nominee, a 2021 Princess Grace semi-finalist, and won the national 2018/19 DVRF Playwrights Program. They have recently been an Ensemble Studio Theatre Youngblood finalist; a three-time semi-finalist for the Bay Area Playwrights Festival; and a two-time O'Neill semi-finalist. Their work has been developed with The Flea, Pipeline Theatre Company, Fresh Ground Pepper, New Light Theatre Project, Dixon Place, Project Y, Egg & Spoon, Pride Films & Plays (Chicago) and elsewhere. Amy is a New Georges affiliated artist. BA, Brooklyn College under Erin Courtney. Recent MFA graduate, Carnegie Mellon University under Rob Handel.

New Plays Announced For 2022 Bay Area Playwrights Festival


Playwrights Foundation, the West Coast's premier launchpad for exceptional new plays and playwrights, has announced its lineup for the 45th Annual Bay Area Playwrights Festival (BAPF) which will be presented as a hybrid (in-person and streamed) festival July 29 - August 7, 2022. Selected from 240 applicants via a committee process with 150 readers (the majority of whom are also playwrights), five powerful plays by five exciting new voices will receive public readings and workshops in this year's festival.

The reading is directed by Sarah Krohn (WP's Veil'd).

BWW Review: Festival of New Texas Plays at Austin Playhouse


Austin Playhouse recently produced staged readings of the three winning plays from their Festival of New Texas Plays. EIDOPHUSIKON by Reina Hardy kicked off the festival on Friday, April 27, NUTSHELL by C. Denby Swanson was on Saturday, April 28, and MONROE by Lisa B. Thompson concluded the lineup on Sunday, April 29. Along with the professional staged reading, which featured Austin Playhouse directors and company members, each of the winning playwrights received a $500 prize.
